I gave up loading for shotgun when the price of lead went through the roof, and now I have this 8 pound bottle of Clays staring at me every time I open my powder cabinet..

Anyone ever use if for handgun cartridges? I'm thinking primarily 45ACP, 45LC and maybe even 357.. anyone have any experience with it?
thanks!

If you are planning to load it under a 230 grain jacketed bullet the Richard Lee second edition of Modern Reloading gives a start load of 3.7 grains of Clays and a max load of 4.0. If you need data for other bullets I can get that also.

At 4 grains per load that equates to 14,000 loads before you run out of powder.

Thanks guys... I think I may have to load some shotshells just to get rid of it! There is no way I'd ever shoot that much handgun!

I'm mainly a "rifle guy" these days.... handguns are just a diversion for when I get bored.

it makes pretty good sub sonic rifle loads.
but it'll still last forever there too.

in the 45 colt it makes a pretty darn passable cowboy action type load at 4.8grs under a 165 to 250 gr cast bullet.
but the 45 acp usually shoots the above load quite well and the cases are clean when they come out of the gun.
