I would like to get a European/German (with English translation) reloading manual. I DON'T MEAN A TYPICAL U.S. TYPE MANUAL WITH WEAK TO MODERATE LOAD DATA FOR 8X57IS & 7X57.

I have an 8x57IS sporterized, mil surp rifle.I acquired it as a practice shooter. But lo & behold I've discovered that the caliber & rifle can be & should be used for more than just shooting paper. I am using the iron sights & have learned the gun is accurate & fun.

The typical U.S. load data is moderate at best for this cartridge. I plan on using Woodleigh 196 grain round nose bullets. I've used Vihtavuori N150 powder and I'm pleased with the results. But, I'd like a manual as described above for info purposes and possibly some great loads. DON'T FRET - SAFETY (IN REGARDS TO HIGH PRESSURE LOADS etc.) WILL BE adhered to.

I'm guessing it would be an older (50+ years old) (it doesn't have to be old). If you have any info please indicate in this thread; I'm positive there are others who desire this same manual. Thanks

By far the best manual available in Germany is
Wiederladen: Vorbereitung und Praxis von DEVA. It is produced by the German agency responsible for testing weapons and ammunition and offers loads using not only European but also American componants. It is available from Amazon.de
(http://www.amazon.de/deva-wiederladen-B%C3%BCcher/s?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A186606%2Ck%3Adeva%20wiederladen&page=1) and can be paid for by credit card.

The text is in German, but the tables of loading data can be easily understood without a knowledge of the language. One problem, however, is that the loads are limited to the prescribed pressure limits for German cartridges, some of which were established before World War II, for cartridges such as the 9X57, which were deliberately kept low for various reasons.

Modern cartridge loads, including the 8X57JS and the 7X57 use modern pressure limits. If you should obtain such a manual, I will be happy to translate the relevant passages for you. It is a great reference source, giving accurate cartridge measurements and pressure limits.

Thank you xausa,

This is exactly (except for the German text) what I had in mind. I'll be ordering this manual.
