Varget works great in mine and H4350. With the 160 H4350 will get crowded but still shoot real tight groups. I know you can drop a deer at 350yds with the 160s easy.

i think 4350 runs about the fastest MV w/ max suggested charges. i dont see much of a need to run mine at max w/ a 20" Steyr. i use the H4895. no need to try and make a 7mag out of it. 139 gr SP @ 2600 is all it takes to kill deer.

The 7-08 is one of those remarkably versatile cartridges for the reloader as it does well with a number of propellants. My favorites are Re-15 and H4350, but Varget, H4895, IMR-4064 and H414 seem to do extremely well also.

Another nice friendly thing that I like about the 7mm08 is that it shoots tight groups with 100, 130 and 160 Sierras. Shoots tight groups with 120 and 140 TSXs and I have some 150 Sierra matches that should be here tomorrow and they should do well also.

I have seen good groups with IMR 4895 & IMR 4064. I will be trying RL15 next.

My powder for it has been 4064 (140 gr bullets) from way back when we called it the "7mm souper". Long before Remington hijacked.... er commercialized it. I still mark the ones I barrel as "7X51" because I think their name for it is dumb. But then, so are a lot of other cartridge designations. That said, it's one of my all time favorite calibers: whatever you call it
