Have anyone develope some reloads for the 7 STW? I have a Ruger No 1 in this cal. and trying some reloads I notify that I can;t get published velocities with the chargs that manuals published. My barrel is 26 inches. I can get IMR 7828,IMR 4831,Re 22. Using 80 grs. of 7828 I can get 3200 fps.and accuracy is one inch at 100 meters.

Welcome to the club. 80 grs of 7828 with what bullet? I had a 26" Winchester Larado. My max velocity for the 120 was around 3600 the 140 3400 and the 160s 3200. To get those velocity I was several grs above book max but had no pressure signs. I got best results with RL22 and 7828. Calculations say that something like Retumbo, H870 and N570 might give 50-100fps higher velocity with loads around 110% case volume. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I built several 7STW for others and myself back while it was still a wildcat. I was using 8mm mag brass resized. Most of my work was with Noslers the 120, 140Accubond and 160 Part. Comparing my results my loads were about 4-5 grs higher than what Nosler now shows in its manual #4. RL22 worked best RL22 The 140s and 160s with 7828. Like I said I was 4-5 grs above the Nosler max. I would get in the range of 3600 for the 120, 3400 for the 140s and At least 3 of the rifles gave pretty much the same result. Did a little work with compressed loaded of 5010 and 160s that had promise. I can't seem to find the data. Comparing my loads form 15-20 years ago with QL calculates pressures in the 65-67,000 range. REal darn close to your 160 Sierra and 80grs. I had built my first STW because of a wide open west texas ranch I hunted on. Can't hunt there anymore and sold my last STW. My personal feeling is that Layne Simpson's velocities are touch on the optimistic side. As to Nosler's I can reach their velocity but not at their loads. If I was till playing with one I would look to a compressed slow powder. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Did you had the same problem with velocities published in reloading manuals in other calibers? I had checked in 35 calibers and the problem persist as a rule. Once I had wrote to the NRA staff asking for that problem and they answered me that manuals published allways the best performance . For example , use pressure barrels with minimun tolerances, 28 inch barrrels ,write down the high velocity obtained, etc. BUT THEY ARE NO REAL IN VEL. DATA.

With 160gr Accubonds and 154gr Interbonds,I'm loading 77grs of Reloader-22.I'm getting right at 3200fps out of my Remington Sendero with groups of 1/2" inch or less at a 100yds with both bullets and point of impact are within 1/2" of each other. The Interbonds are hitting 1/2" lower than the Accubonds.

Sure but it doesn't appear as much as the STW. I worked my loads up prior to Nosler including the STW in their manual. I was trying to reach the velocities posted by Layne Simpson in his early articles. So I had worked up my loads found the velocity and determined they were safe in my rifles. Then later compared them to Nosler and saw they were several grain above the Nosler Max. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I'm sure you have worked up to those loads and are comfortable with them. "Info Only" QL calculates close to 3200 for that load. However it also shows about a 5-6000psi difference in pressure. With the 160 calculating right at 68,000. Like I said this is a calculation only and as you can see in the range of what my STW loads calculate as well. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
