Could I get some opines on which brand of brass you consider the best? Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. I have found Remington brass to be on the softer side. Winchester seems to take pressure a bit better. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... It entices its bearer into primeval forests, into mountains and deserts untenanted by man. - Horace Kephart

I liked Lapua, but sadly it is no longer produced. Winchester is good, also, ig you are lucky and draw a good lot. Otherwise lots of prep. The Nosler brass has been very good and uniform except powder capacity is on par with Remington.

I like Lapua. Had I known they were going to stop I woulda bought a few hundred more. I've since bought RWS. Kinda hard to find though, but can be had for about $1.05/ea. I had a source for bulk RWS much cheaper but had to buy 1000 pieces, I didn't wanna buy all of that though myself. That being said of the "easier" to get brass I'd go Norma. While Lapua is really great brass, if it is a hunting rifle there is no need to feed it expensive Lapua brass. If it's a bench rifle, go for it. Winchester is what I use coupled with RL-25 for my 300 Winny and it does very well. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. I shoot and reload a lot of the 300 win mag cartridges. I rely on WW brass first for hot loads and I rely on Remington brass for medium and target loads. I have gotten 8+ reloads on the WW where the Remingtons show 3+ on hot loads. Both work well for target.

I quit buying Winchester brass because of the scrap rate. In the last bag of 100, .25-06 cases I bought, 6 were so badly dented I couldn't get the expander ball through them. 6% scrap rate for new brass is totally unexceptable at todays prices. I've found Remington brass to not only be better, but I have yet to have a bad case. Better material handling perhaps, but regardless the quality is better. Bill T.

Remington. It's my go-to brass in just about all the calibres I shoot and I've found no reason to change. For that reason, I can't give you a comparison. In 7mag and .300mag and .338mag, I get case life that seems to be considerably more that they recommend although I don't keep count. And I'm running about 95+% loads in those rifles. I don't find much real difference in Win, Rem, or Fed in the belted magnums. I came by a quantity of Federal in .300 Win pretty cheap a while back and it is doing just fine. I'm not sure who makes the Nosler brass, but I'm confident it is very consistent and high quality -- just not enough so to justify its exhorbitant cost.

I would have to say the best brass I have used is RWS. For North American brass 10 or 15 years ago I would have said Winchester then Rem. Not any more. Win used to be very consistant brass with nice primer pockets even necks and consistantly well annealed . no more. I've seen hard and soft cases from win in the same bag. Rem brass is a lot more consistant than it used to be. I would rate it equal to Win brass. Fed brass is nice but a little softer than win.

Jim. Measured 4 random cases. Lapua b/w 214.85 - 215.20gr .332 -.336" OD RWS b/w 272.75 - 273.20gr .334 - .338" OD (grain of salt with the OD as they were all virgin cases and was in a hurry [ID for both was .303]) There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. RWS #1 Lapua #2 Norma #3 (they have made brass for Lapua at times). New Hornady is best N.A. 300 Win Mag brass. With all RWS brass, start LOW on powder charge, you will never make it to the published maximum load.
