I know the wsm's are not as popular on this forum as others, so I am hoping to get some help.

I am loading for a friend and I of coarse we waited til the last minute. Deer hunt starts in 2 weeks.

I did come up with a decent load using IMR4064, about 63 grains. No pressure signs and yes this is 1 grain above Sierra's max.

He wants Barnes bullets, which I personally despise and they are of the 150 grain variaty.

I will not stay with this laod but he will be using for this trip. We got this load to shoot about a 1 inch group.

What has everyone had the best luck with the 300 wsm's with 150, 165, and 180's.

My 270 WSM loves R19 and 22. With the Barnes XLC the 300 WSM hated that powder.

I have never had Barnes in any caliber punch paper well. I am trying to get him to switch to an accubond.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't use Barnes monometal bullets either.

That said, my 300WSM and several others I have seen and talked with have great luck with H4350. RL19 is popular, but I haven't tried it. 4831 does well for me in 200 grain loads. Nosler bullets for game and Sierra MK for paper...

I had poor luck with H414, Magpro, VN560, and one other I forget off the top of my head.

For light bullets (150 and 165-8) though, if you can stand another powder choice and less than optimal velocities, I have great accuracy with 4895 (H or IMR) and Varget.

WLRM primers for all of the above. YMMV. Good luck!

Haven't loaded for the WSM but you might give ther new Barnes TSX's a try. I used to dislike Barnes' original X-bullet quite a bit but have been very impressed with the new design.

For a friends 300wsm, I use a 168gr Barnes TSX over 72grs of IMR4831. He gets around 3100fps with it and they shoot great.

I use Ramshot Hunter in my 300WSM BAR with 165 and 180 Partitions with excellent results. R-19 works well also , just didn't get the velocities with the 180's as I do with Hunter.

a guy over here in NZ who does load development for people as a profession, uses VV-N160 to start with he says it "gets most of them off their asses" which i just assume he means it gets them going fast. out of a nesika action and a 24" barrel he was getting near 3400FPS with 150gr accubonds out of a 300WSM. while mine does 3250FPS with 70gr of N160 and the 150 grain accubond (no pressure signs). seems to group nice too.

but 150s are a bit light. with 165s im getting over 3150+ fps reaching the max loads

Hornady 180 SP Interlock with 64 grains of IMR4831 and a Rem 9 1/2M primer loaded to COAL of 2.828" gets me 2954 fps and a 0.6" three shot groups

Barnes TSX bullets punch consistent sub MOA groups in my 375H&H and 7 Mags.

69 grains of 4831 SC and WLRM primers and 150 grains XXX produce sub moa in my 300 WSM's, several of them. The new XXX really shoot great, they are one of the most accurate bullets I have ever tried, and I've tried most everything. I would encourage you to reserve judgement on Barnes XXX's, as all my experience with on game performance has been great as well as them being very accurate.

Good Shooting--Don

I have worked with a couple of 300 WSM rifles and tried a variety of loads in them.

I tried IMR 4350, H 4350, IMR 4831, RL 19, RL 22, and N 560. I tried Sierra Pro Hunters, Nosler Partitions, and Nosler Accubonds. As usual, I found each gun has its favorite recipes.

My buddies Winchester Model 70 chambered in 300 WSM gave the best groups with 68 grains of IMR 4831 behind a 180 Nosler Partition. The velocity was about 3050 fps.

My Remington 700XCR chambered in 300 WSM shoots well with a load of 67 grains of H 4350 behind a 165 Accubond. Velocity was measured at 3170 fps over a Pact chronograph.

Both these loads were put together with Winchester brass and Fed 215M primers. Both loads should be considered maximum and you should start lower on the powder charge.

Hope this helps, R F

I have been doing some research and am finding the XLC design are not nearly as accurate as the TSX. I think that may be the problem.

So I sent my buddy to the store and told him to get some. So I will try it again with those bullets. Thanks for all the info.

I never got around to trying triple shocks in my 300WSM before I sold it to a buddy of mine, but I suspect they would have shot well. I've gone to triple shocks in most of my rifles now. My 300WSM (a M70 classic) was easy to load for and liked the Hornady 165gr interlock with 71gr RL22 and the 180 grain interlock with either 71grains N165 or 70 grains H4831 (WLR primers). It shot all of these into less than 1" at 100 yards (5 shots).
