I am thinking about reloading both my 375 H&H and 25-06 with the Nosler Accubond. Both will be used to hunt North American game. 375 H&H 260 grain bullet for elk and mule deer. 25-06 110 grain for whitetail, hogs ect. Before I start working up the loads for accurate shooting I am looking for people that exp with it.

Thanks

From experience I can tell you that the selection of the bullets you use in the 25-06 is far more critical than the .375. For the .375 on Elk either of the 270 gr. Hornady's or the 270gr Speer boat tails will do the job.

I was fortunate enough to have used Barnes'(1966) originals in the 25-06 and they worked just great. The 25-06 really demands a PREMIUM bullet on deer size game. Luckily today you have a truely great selection and MOST all of them are totally adequate. Winkroger

Cool

SS,

I agree with Bartsche 100%.

For the NA Big Game you describe any brand name 260-270 grain bullet (not the 235 grainers) in the .375 H&H will be more than adequate and you can bypass the premium bullet line - Hornady's or Sierra's will work excellently, I've shot many large Stags and Wild Boar with the Sierra 300 grain SPBT and they work just fine.

I have also used Nosler AB's, BT's & Speer's TBBC'S in Europe & in Africa (all 260 grainers). I changed over from 300 grainers because these new Whiz-Bangs are in vogue, all the hype and the flavor of the month. After getting O.K. but not the particularly spectacular performance that everyone has been frothing at the mouth about, I'm back to the PMP 300 grain Round Noses that have given sterling performance over the years.

As for your .25/06 I have no experience with this cartridge but if I was to use it for the deer/hogs you describe under the normal hunting situatins where they will be hunted then I would as bartsche suggested go with a premium 120 grain bullet. If I had to make the choice you are faced with for a .25/06 I'd consider the Nosler AC in .257 to be such a bullet.

Cheers,

I only use 300 gr. Nosler, 285 gr. Northforks, and 300 gr. Woodliehs in my 375 and I like the 350 gr. Woodleighs for Africa...I have used all the lighter bullets, and have never been impressed, but I take any angle shots including going South with my .375 and the bullets I mention will still make two holes most of the time..and they have NEVER failed me...as to trajectory, the 300 are good for 350 to 400 yards and there is not but about 3"s difference and they buck wind better..In the real world of hunting 3 to 6 inches of difference can work either way with me, I can flinch one on about as easy as I can flinch one off at 350 yds.. beer

SS -

are you going to be looking for mule deer in heavily-timbered forests next to elk?

if not, then i would suggest using the same .25/06 that you will use on whitetails. it would also be great for pronghorn antelope. mule deer and antelope share the same habitat, and the .25/06 is a fantastic cartridge for both species.

I would try 270 Hornaday's, 260 Partitions, and 300 Hornadays were I you because my experience is that different 375's like different bullets. In your case, accuracy will be very important, therefore, experiment with the lot. The same can be said for powders. At least three, RL15, WW760 and 4350, have shown promise in various 375 of mine. My 602 likes the 270 Hornaday, but my Mauser likes the 300 Hornaday better along with the 260Partition. go figure. Kudude

Not only are the others right when the say the big 25 needs premium bullets, it has the capacity to drive heavy bullets fast. I wouldn't think of using any bullet less than 115 grains in weight unless you're varminting. The 25-06 will excell as a varminter with anything weighing between 87 and 100 grains, plus it will beat wind that 22s can't. The bullet you chose is a dandy in the Roberts, but the 25-06 demands something better.
