What brand of 220 grain roundnose soft is that? What velocity are you running? FWIW I found the Hornady a little on the soft side @ 2450 fps. Still, I gotta get me a 300 H&H...

I reckon the 300 H&H is the best looking of all cartridges closely followed by the 375 when loaded with the old 270 grain Power Point and 300 grain Silvertip.

Bob, Gunsmith has the barrel and it passed his eyeball test, and it went on the action just fine; he got the 300 H&H reamer from Brownells the other day so hopefully we'll be on the range in a couple of weeks

Someday, try a few 220 Nosler Partitons, they have been great for me.

FWIW the Sierra 220s (do they even make them anymore?) were a little more accurate than the Hornady (but I'd aspired to use Hornady's pencil bullet ever since I saw it in the first edition manual back in 1973). I tried the Noslers too but encountered pressure signs, lower velocity, and inconsistent accuracy when I tried switching midway through load development. This was all with IMR4350 in a 22 inch 30'06 years ago now so your mileage will almost certainly vary.

I was hoping someone would ask me about the hide in the background. bewildered

It is from the noisy & dangerous Tamiasciurus hudsonicus, the Alaskan Red squirrel; my son’s first “big” game trophy (at age 8, he acted like he just shot a 60” moose). Red Squirrel dancing

Dangerous because it wreaks havoc in any insulated building where they like to build their nests. Noisy as it announces itself & defends its territory. They drive dogs crazy. Mad

It was bagged with a pump (not lever) Daisy BB gun with open sights at 10 yards in the side yard. knife

I did the taxidermy work with bottle of tanning solution I got from Cabela’s. animal

Happy New Year beer

All right!!! dancing

If it proves a little 'soft' as Nordrseta asks, then a 220 grain SMP partition still looks cool on that case, along with taking care of that 'soft' issue..

Now what kind of 'classic' rifle are you going to be loading that into?

you have me thinking tho..

my current project is after picking up a Marlin XL 7 for $257 new ( chambered in 270) for a truck gun, I am going to change that barrel out for a 257 Roberts barrel out of Midway for $130.00... Big Grin

Seafire

Picked up a 375 H&H MK X, didn't need another 3/8 bore but couldn't pass up the price, picked up a really clean MK X 30-06 on AR Bay and my gunsmith is converting it 300 H&H

I'll have a poor man's version of matching set -- 300 & 375 H&H
