I discovered this by accident the other, as I was reloading my friend 375 Dakota for him (which is based on the 404 Jeffery case).

The Lee #5 shell holder (designed for standard magnum belted cases...300 Win, 7mm Remington, etc) fits the 404 case perfectly, even better than the RCBS shell holder designed for the 404.

I took out several makes of 404 Jeffery brass that I have lying around and confirmed it on all the cases.

I also pulled out a few more of the half-dozen #5 shell holders I have, and they all fit too (so it just wasn't a shell holder that had larger tolerances).

Thought you might want to know if you reload for the 404.

I've got three sets of Lees (two standard and one auto prime) and my Norma brass won't go in any of them. The rims on mine are pretty much dead on .5400" and they are too wide to fit the slot. I think you got lucky but it's sure worth checking before buying a specialty shell holder.
