Does anyone load their .223 Rem with H414? I made up several loads, usin imr4198, h414, and H335. The 414 seemed to be the most accurate when i went out to shoot. It calls for 29.0gr, and thats why i don't really want to use it. the lighter load with imr only called for 19.5gr. All loads shot in the same area, just the 414 was a tighter group. I think i'm gonna finish off 100 bullets with the 414, then switch to a more economical choice of powder.

No..it's too slow in the 223!...it will do OK in the 22-250 however!
Stick to H-335, BL(C)-2, and Win 748 and a few others in the .223

The best powders I found for the .223 are Winchester 748 and Hodgdon Benchmark.

As Vapodog wrote, H414 is too slow burning to give optimum results in the .223, meaning that you would need to use very large charges of it and you would still not get anywhere near the velocity you could get with smaller charges of a faster burning powder.

I have used that, and also H 380 in the 223...

I believe their producing tighter groups is based on the lower velocity, and lower pressure...

What I like about H 380, besides being 22 caliber case neck friendly when reloading.. is that I can use it for a 40 grain bullet, to a 70 grain bullet and pretty much get the same MV and Point of impact...

That adds a lot of versatility... MV is about 3000 fps, which I can easily live with...my charge is 28 grains...

Still almost any of the standard rifle powders work in a 223...that is the beauty of them..

Don't forget to try TAC powder especially with heavier bullets.
