What you do is take a pencil down range with you and if nobody's looking punch the holes where you want. shockerroger

Roger doesn't tell you that he is shooting these in his basement... that is how he deals with the wind problem...

    Roge,

instead of punching multiple holes in the target where you want them.. just do one hole..

if you are shooting a 22 caliber, just shoot a 6mm caliber once into a target, and then display that as a 10 shot group made with your 223 at 200 yds... Didn't I teach you anything when I got together with you down there???

one thing I love to do at our range is when zeroing a scope, I'll get the windage etc at 25 yds first... then I'll shoot a 25 yd group to make sure...

then after I'm done with my shooting that day, I'll walk that 25 yd target and stand out to the 200 meter mark, and then just go home...

I am sure it messes with someone's mind when they walk out to 200 meters and see a group that was shot at 25 yds..but they don't know that...

can't we be stingers at times... lol

    Seafire,
You are the one who taught me that accuracy is measured at 50 yards, where 6 mph wind deflects .1", instead of 100 yards, where the same wind deflects .5".

And 6 mph wind is so wimpy, the leaves don't move Mad

OK, I put it in Quickload .223, 33 gr, 24" barrel, 15 gr Blue Dot, and then looked in Quicktarget for wind deflection:

Tabular trajectory data at Std.ICAO Atmosphere
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Gun / Ammunition : .223 Rem. (SAAMI)
    Bullet : .224, 35, Hornady V-MAX 22252
Bullet weight : 33 grains or 2.14 Grams
    Muzzle velocity : 3455 fps
    Crosswind speed : 6 Mph

    --------------------------------------------------
Range[yards] Velocity[fps] Deflection at crosswind of 6.0 Mph [inches]
    ------------------------------------------------------

    0... 3455... 0.0
    10... 3357... 0.0
    20... 3261... 0.1
    30... 3167 ... 0.1
    40... 3075... 0.2
    50... 2985... 0.3
    60 ... 2897... 0.5
    70 ... 2811... 0.7
    80 ... 2726... 0.9
    90 ... 2643... 1.2
    96 ... 2594... 1.4
    100 ... 2562 ... 1.5
    110 ... 2482... 1.8

    What does it all mean?
You are right Roger, .1" deflection at 50y and .5" at 100y comes with 2.0 mph wind, not 6mph wind.

I wish it were so tnekkcc! The truth is I was more than 180 degrees off Frowner My brain farty mind was telling me that a 6 mph. wind would not have that much of an effect. thumbdown I guess I'll just go and eat some worms. shockerroger
