I went out and tested some loads this afternoon with my new 22-250 Ackley. First time with an Ackley round and first time using Berger VLD projectiles. I used H4350 data overlapping the upper end of 22-250 data with 220 swift data going .3 over max book load in Berger's manual using IMR 4451 (similar burn rate to H4350). Started at 33.5 and went up to 37.3, 0.020" off lands. I will list my charges below along with their corresponding velocity. I did not see any pressure signs with these loads. I would love to get feedback, can I go hotter or should I? I am not familiar with velocities in the 22-250 Ackley with 80 grain projectiles and need to know if I am in the realm of what this cartridge is. This was all shot from a 26 inch 1:8 barrel and air temps were around 60° 33.5 - 2945 34.0 - 3038 34.5 - 3049 35.0 - 3106 35.5 - 3107 35.8 - 3157 36.1 - 3117 36.4 - 3183 36.7 - 3233 37.0 - 3218 37.3 (.3 over Berger book max for 220 Swift) - 3203

I have never loaded anything heavier than 60gr pills in my 22-250AI, but, I use standard 22-250 MAXIMUM loads as my START loads and work up from there until I get stiff bolt lift/ejector marks/flattened/cratered primers. Once this is found, I back off 2 full grains of powder and call that maximum. Cheers.

The heaviest bullet that I've tried in my 22.250AI (10" twist) is the 69 grain SMK. It actually like the Barnes 50 grain Varmint Grenades better. I like to keep the ones that don't shoot for further research and testing
