What tools for do you guys use for case prep??
I now load 38 special and 9mm.

I will soon get doing 45 70, 44 mag, 3006 in that order.

I use carbide dies now for the 36 and 9mm. Don't even have case lube tools yet. I do tumble polish, that is all.
I do not know what to buy and there is no gun shop near home. Just mail order.
What tools work well?

One piece of advice was to just get the
Lyman VLD (Very Low Drag) Chamfer/Reamer.

That would be all I need till cases stretch.
Straight wall cases may wear out before they need to be trimmed.
Is this good advice?

Interesting. I have loaded for:

.357, ( long pause ) 9 mm, .30-06, .222, .45-70, .45 ACP, .44 Mag.

I am willing to pay reasonably more for better equipment and for better accuracy.

The exception to that rule is LEE.

Trim your straight walled cases! With the LEE case lenght gauge and trim accessories!

Use carbide dies, where available. Don´t USE, but at any rate BUY a LEE ( Carbide ) Factory crimp die for any caliber, you MIGHT reload for!

I am really thinking of stocking up those LEE trim and lenght gauges and crimp dies for any caliber I ever could think of to own realistically!

For rifles: if you are serious about accuracy think about straight line seating tools and primer pocket uniforming and flash hole deburring tools.

Get a SINCLAIR catalog - they DO export!

Lee case length/trimmer set and Lyman VLD inside deburr tool is my setup. The VLD tool is the best thing out there. I'm still looking for the 'right' outside chamfer tool. I also just use the Lee case lube - apply a small amount to the fingertips and then just lightly roll a bit on each case body. A little goes a long way.

I rarely trim handgun brass, but I do check it. Definitely get the tools to check and trim all rifle brass, whether bottleneck or straight.

Use the Lee factory crimp die for any caliber you load, esp roll crimps for revolver ammo.

For about $20 you can buy the set of case prep tools from Lyman that fit in a rechargable drill. Comes with primer pocket cleaners, neck brushes, primer crimp reamers, VLD chamferring tool, outside chamfering tool. Does everything a much more expensive RCBS case prep station does.

I bought the Lyman Case Prep Kit with the hand crank, which I fasten to my bench with stove bolts and wing nuts when I need it, and detach it when I'm done. It came with small and large primer pocket cleaners, small and large primer pocket reamers, and an inside/outside chamfer and de-burr tool. All for about $20 from MidSouth. It really comes in handy, especially on rifle cases. I also use the Lyman Universal Trimmer, which I really like, and the Lyman flash hole uniformer. ~ Marc

I don't do any prep for straightwall cases. I don't even tumble them. Size with a carbide, prime, expand, drop a charge, and seat/roll crimp.

Seems like all you are going to need is a chamfer/deburr tool and a tube of Lee case lube paste.

When you get ready for trimming buy the Lee cutter and lock stud and the appropriate case length pilot. They are cheap and work great. I chuck mine in a rechargeable dewalt drill.

I do use the RCBS prep station, I've installed several tools, such as a primer pocket/hole concenatric tool, works great. I use a tumbler made for rocks, it works great too. a good set of calipers is a must, you can't do anything without them. RCBS case trimmer, a combo inside and outside reamer, don't remember brand, but it's worked great over the years. A good supply of medium walnut hulls, always.... And some elbow grease.
