I live north of you a bit. Our big thing for the holidays here is to load up lots of shotshells and setup the thrower and let all the parents & kids do a little shooting. Let me know if you get something setup and I'll see if I can come down and say howdy.

Hey guys, I'm over here in The People's Republic of Eugene-istan. Getting worse here all the time. Maybe that is why I spend several months a year in Africa... I try to spend as much time as I can at my place near LaPine...less rain and fewer democrats Joel Slate Slate & Associates, LLC www.slatesafaris.com 7mm Rem Mag Page www.slatesafaris.com/7mm.htm

Zeke, I agree about Springfield. It seems that Springfield has a "pro-business, pro-development" attitude that is paying off. After all, the hospital, Symantec, and a bunch of other business are reloacating there from Eugene. I live out in the Santa Clara area in north Eugene, and it's a little better, but still.....way too many communists and environazis. I'm from Baker City! We have a great local range here. We can shoot 1000 Yards and beyond. We are planning a 1000 yard bench rest shoot next year. I like it here because the town is one of the few that is smaller now than it ever was. Lots of public land to use. Great youth shooting program. Ter

Z, (Others) I wouldnt mind getting a few people together for a yote hunt as well. I missed the Crane sage rat hunt last year(wont this year), but would like to get in a few other hunts in over the winter. There is a few places I would like to check out, but none that I can swear by having dogs to shoot. Let me know and maybe we could head out the sat after Turkey day. Better go, the wife is scouling at me (she knows I am sceeming a hunt....hee hee). Talk to you later, JAG Hood River, OR jgifford@pacifier.com

Jag, Yeah, i would like to get some huntin in this winter also. I will have to check out my calander to see when i have open. I am an instructor with Portland Firearms Training Team and spend a lot of Saturdays teaching various firearm disciplines. I know work will have a few 1-2 week layoffs coming up,depending on Freightliners schedule,i maybe able to get away that weekend. Let me know what areas you are looking at and i will check and see if i know anyone in the area who may have some info to help out a trip. Z quote:

Living in Hillsboro but getting ready to move to Sisters in the Spring. In fact, I just got my permit to start building my shop building, so I'll be spending a lot of time up there this winter. Let me know and I'll try to make it- especially if shooting and food are involved!- Sheister

Gents, Thanks to all that have posted so far, more out there too. I knew there was a fair amount of Oregonians here. The longer this stays near the top the better chance the others will chime in. There is a large open range near Prineville that would suit our needs fine, I was there shooting a 50BMG last new years...bowling pins @ 600 yards is a hoot Bend is too crowded anymore, same for Redmond. Traffic truly sucks in Bend. 45nut

45nut, Saw this post. I mainly hang out on the cast boards. Reside in Springfield. Have to agree about the PRE. Even worse I work for PeaceHealth and think the Eugene City Council should be committed along with the acting city manager. What a bunch of commies.

I live in Central Point (right next to Medford), but hunt anywhere I can. Ashland is pretty much the same as Eugene, and Portland, Bend is starting to get that way too. They are all watermelons, enviromentalist green on the outside and commie red on the inside.

Gents, Well I wonder how many more Oregonians might be lurking out there? Good to see I might have a few more lead lunkers over on the 1st. I am wondering if this should be a long range bowling pin shoot....Nice reactive targets,no mess at the end of the day. Rifles, handguns, handcannons welcome. 45nut

PNW, to be vague, but the central OR coast to be a little less vague. I have to agree with the observations in regards to Eugenestan. You've never read so much Bolshevik drivel until you've read "The Red Guard". I don't begrudge anybody their Constitutional Right to say whatever they want, but it would be all the more palaitable if it came from an informed and objective source! The letters to the editors have to be seen to be believed. I suppose it's worse in Berkley, but how much worse? Happy New Year. Cheeky

If I remember right the saying was "Prineville where the women are men and the sheep are scared" I'm from Madras but currently stationed in Ft. Huachuca,AZ currently i'm trying shoot a couse deer last three days I have missed 5 bucks boy horrible shooting I told my friend on the Reservation up there Warm Springs to be exact I would of been laughed out of the great state of Oregon with that kind of shooting.

quote:No, it's in Eugene . . . "Where the men are men, half the women wish they were, and the sheep are scared." I'd be a bit concerned about shooting with a hangover. A hangover is a polite way of saying "you're still drunk" -- although now it's not fun anymore. I've been to gravel pits with a large group of shooters where no one was actually "in charge" . . . lots of people carrying loaded rifles and lots of muzzles pointing god-knows-where. I asked a group of about five shooters if they'd open the bolts on their rifles while I went up to the targets and set up. All five shooters had rifles cradled in there arms, bolts closed, gung cocked and lock, and ready to shoot. That's not safe. Also in this scene were several kids . . . with 22 cal. rifles . . . shooting in another direction, with marginal supervison. Oh yeah, dad and "uncle bill" were there . . . sitting in beach chairs, having a beer. I've been with informal groups of shooters where everyone followed some basic rules . . . loaded guns on the line only (handguns in holsters excepted), shooters designate "clear" before moving down range to check targets. "Clear" means the guns are empty and the bolt is open. Nobody sling a loaded rifle over their shoulder to go down range to check targets. Nobody stands at the line running swabs through the bore while people are down range checking targets. HANDS OFF the guns entirely while people are down range. The shooting line is formally designated -- with a visible line. We run a poly rope between tent stakes driven in the groun. The target area is formally restricted to one area down range from the firing line. None of this "plinking" off to the side with the kids while "uncle bill" and dad have a beer. Alcohol in any form is prohibited. That stuff comes out AFTER the guns are stowed and the shooting is done. Sorry to be a hard ass about this. When I asked these guys to open actions on their loaded rifles, I got a "weird look" -- and then they all said, "You know he's right about this." Much rather take a "weird look" than an accidental bullet. Have a good time. Prinville is one of my favorite areas. I'm from the Portland suburbs -- and have a previous engagement. But let's be careful in the large shooting parties. The casual atmosphere and informal shooting arrangements can get dangerous. Take the time before shooting to agree to some basic safety procedures. And then make sure EVERYONE follows the agreed upon rules. OK ??? "Clear" . . .

Gents, Actually I don't drink, most of the people that will be there don't drink, and although this is set up for an "informal" shoot there will be adherance to safety first.fun second..everybody goes home safe. I just don't think it's really neccesary to think of other shooters as slobs, drunks and general nincompoops. Unless proven otherwise I tend to think of most of the reloaders and shooters that post on the forums are responsible. Most drunken slobs that I knew of in the past couldn't even spell computer much less turn on one and find a forum such as this. Of course I know I could be proven wrong,But new years day doesn't really mandate drinking til'dawn new years eve. 45nut
