I have about 6 boxes of hornady 165g bt spire point bullets and was wondering if any body has a good load for this bullet. I will be hunting mule deer in Utah this fall and have decided to shoot my 30-06, should I use the the 165g or would you recomend a different bullet. Any thoughts on this subject will be helpful since I am fairly new to reloading.

Hodgdon h4350, 56-58 grs. (start lower and work up slow), and a regular large rifle primer...should make 2750-2850 fps in a 22" or 24" barrel... it's THE 30-06 load...

About a case full of H4831 aways works in an 06...I usually use 61 grs. but I have the old stuff so you could probably get by with about 58 or 59 grs... Another good load is H414... You should invest in a good reloading book.

I've been using 58 gr. of IMR 4831 with WLR primers for years now. Only difference is mine is the Speer bullet of the same shape. The 165 grain may be a bit heavier than needed if hunting some of the smaller deer, but those Utah Mulies can get big on you. Just work up a load your rifle likes and practice with it this summer. Long range dirt clods and "rock on that hillside" stuff will have you ready for the fall hunt. And give you some "Quality time" with your rifle.

If you leave Hornady bullets on the shelf too long, they will go bad on you. Why not send me three of the boxes and I'll load them up using 57grs of IMR 4350 and see if they are still usable. Hey, what are friends for?

That is a great bullet. I have used it on a lot of deer.I use 58 gr of h4350. A friend of mine, a MT FWP biologist, and his sons use that bullet on antelope, deer and elk. good luck
