I'm ordering a 550b and my bench doesn't have any overhang so I thought I would get the strong mounts too. Do any of you use these? What is your opinion of them? Thanks.

My 650 arrived today. I am mounting directly to the bench. I will get a 650 only strong mount and a taller stool, if this proves unsatisfactory. Given that your bench has no overhang, it would seem a must that you get a strong mount. I know a reloader who has two 550s, one set up for small primers, one large. He swears by the strong mount.

It's a good setup for a progressive reloader, the strong mounts work very well, but they do take up some bench real estate. TGW

I bought a strong mount after I had my 550B for a couple of years. I like it a lot better with the strong mount.

My bench is 3/4 ply flush with a 2x4 under the front edge and open underneath, it works perfect and is not to high. The problem you may have is if below 4.5" from the mounting surface it isn't recessed in at least 1" and down to about 6.5" x 4.5" wide the nut and arm will contact the front of the bench. I was so anxious to use it I put two bolts in just the back holes, tightened it down and been using it for two weeks, it's solid. Order the optional install kit with nuts, washers and bolts if you want to use it within 10min like I did. The vidio is worth its weight in gold if you never used one of these before. PS. DON'T forget to slightly loosen the set screw before you change shellplates. The only thing I had to do was finely adjust the primer holder to center in the shellplate (It was catching on the edge a little). I also bent the bottom last 1/2" if the primer op rod tward me abot 1/4" to compensate for the spring under the bar torqueing it downward and catching on the last part of the stroke. It gives it a little lift at the end to keep it from sticking as it tries to drop the next primer. A little oil on the bottem of the bar almost works. Later

Sounds like it's a good deal. Thanks for the comments. Brent, my bench is the same.. 2x4 across the front with plywood on top and open underneath. I have a forster press and rockchucker on it now and put 2x4's under each press running from front to back to help brace it. I see what you mean about the front bolts. I will work something out. I went ahead and got the video a few weeks ago. Now I just have to wait for the press!

The strong mount works great, but as stated, does invrease the height somewhat. You can overide the problem w. the flush bench by mounting a length of 4x6, front to back & then mounting your press to that. Both work fine.
