Hi All, Couple of big questions, well actually three: 1) Which USA companies actually manufacturer the rifle brass that we use for reloading purposes? [Meaning they actually own the manufacturing plant(s).] 2) Where is the manufacturing plant/facility actually located? 3) How do you rate the quality of their brass. Please be specific about each USA company that you desire to comment on….enquiring minds want to know! Thanks, Jim Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

Rocky Mountain Cartridge company , http://www.federalcartridge.com/default.asp?br=1 L.L.C. http://www.ttiarmory.com If Winchester is still producing it's more than likely in East Alton, Illinois, ?. In 1997 Remington opens a new Firearms plant near Mayfield, Kentucky to supplement the Ilion plant. The new Mayfield site is the first new Remington Firearms plant built since 1828. After 1990 when Dupont sold Remington along with UMC cartridge they may very well have farmed out their ammo and brass line ?. I don't really KNOW that for a fact just a guess . 1990 DuPont transferred ownership of Remington Arms Company to a wholly-owned Delaware holding company, DuPont Chemical and Energy Operations, Inc. (DECO). Shoot Straight Know Your Target . ...

I BELIEVE Remington makes their brass at a plant over in Arkansas. Lonoke maybe? I've used Rem brass pretty much since I started to reload since that's what the little gun shop carried where I traded. I've used it to reload for a myriad of cartridges with complete satisfaction. And with a little sweat equity it can be worked up into some pretty good match brass --not comparing it to Lapua, of course. I guess I've been lucky as in 45 years, I've escaped any of the horror stories I've read about in cyberspace.

I had forgotten about starline as they make only pistol brass I think ?. Never heard of Goldenwest where are they out of ? DO any of us REALLY KNOW if the cartridges or Brass Casings are really MADE IN USA any more ?. It's hard to really tell and most difficult to obtain information such as that !. After 9/11 sensitive info is now restricted to access !. Shoot Straight Know Your Target . ...

Where on the TTI website does it say they make their own cartridge brass? Spec's page just reverts back to the home page over and over and over... Winchester brass comes from Olin Brass in East Alton, Illinois, and is the largest single plant location in the Olin Company. It uses more than sixty copper-based alloys to manufacture its products. The main markets for its sales are automotives, builders’ hardware, ammunition, electronic appliances, and musical instruments. It is a leader in the production of specialty metals.

Years ago I was in Winchester as well as Federal ammunition manufacturing division for Powder related operations . Saw all kinds of Brass but never saw where it was actually being made . Hi All, This was good but seems to have died…so I’ll try to resurrect for more comments. It’s good to know that the major brands are still made (at least as best we know) here in the USA. I hadn’t heard of Rocky Mountain Cartridge Company, TTI Armory, or Golden West. • Rocky Mountain Cartridge Company sounds interesting…website found….appears they specialize in straight or bottleneck rimmed cases. Does anyone know how CNC machines cases would compare to extruded cases as far as high pressure goes? • TTI Armory also sounds interesting…website found….though can’t get past the splash screens…guess you have to contact them to determine if they manufacture, or can manufacture, the cases you’re interested in. • Goldenwest (Golden West?) couldn’t find a website for this company under any variation of goldenwest. Does anyone know where, and by whom, Dakota and Nosler ammunition and brass are made? How about the same for Jamison and Quality Cartridge brass? Thanks, Jim Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

A cool little tidbit! The company I work for AFCO steel buys empty crates for detail from the Rem plant in Lonoke. Inside those crates every once in awhile you'll find some little brass plugs that kinda resemble small freeze plugs. These are the very beginnings of a brass case. According to the packing list attached to thee crates Remington gets theses slugs from Outokumpu American Brass. ---------------------------------------- If you waste your time a talkin' to the people who don't listen To the things that you are sayin' who do you thinks gonna hear And if you should die explainin' how the thing they complain about Or the things they could be changing who do you thinks gonna care Waylon Jennings

Years ago i worked for a company that bought rolled brass from Olin. Olin did then and probably still does actually produce the brass material for their cases. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't supply the brass material for all the other domestic producers also - they are that big in the copper and copper alloy metals business. Olin also made the orginal clad material for the production of U.S. coins. I remember walking past the Denver mint and see crates of the stuff with Olin's name on them.
