I have been looking at data to reload the Ruger 375 and just wondered...if the 375Ruger Data and the 375H&H Data use the same powder type lets say varget, with the same bullet weights..say 300gr.
Could the same start and max charges for the 375H&H be used in the 375Ruger with less pressure and no ill effects?
Sorta like the 375Ruger will eat the 375H&H for Lunch! rotflmo
At the 375H&H start load would the 375Ruger Hangfire? dancing

The Hogdon website offers a large page on the .375 Ruger

I feel this is a great cartridge design and it has my interest for sure

The Ruger has more case capacity so yes, identical loads in the Ruger would have lower pressure than in the H&H.

No, starting loads in the H&H would not be hangfires in the Ruger.

Yes, I know you're just trolling.

The case capacity of the Ruger is 99gr H2O and the case capacity of the 375 H&H is 95.3gr H2O. So, while the Ruger is capable of producing higher velocities than the 375H&H, it hardly will "eat the 375H&H for Lunch".

Also, any velocity advantage with the Ruger is better achieved using the lighter bullets. The Ruger cartridge has a .305" neck and little taper to the case while the H&H cartridge has a .352" neck and much more taper to the case. As longer and longer bullets get pushed beyond the neck of the Ruger it becomes less efficient and as you get to 300gr and heavier bullets the velocity differences between the two cartridges begins to fade away. So, if you plan to load 270gr or lighter bullets to the max then the Ruger cartridge might be what you want. But if you plan to shoot 300gr, 325gr, or even 350gr bullets loaded to the max then the H&H cartridge might be what you want. To me, though, the differences are insignificant and meaningless down range.

Remember gents, it's not so much what you have but what you do with it.

Thanks Grenadier,
I was thinking of loading the 260 Nosler.
I have never loaded the 375Ruger and can use all the help I can get with data and start loads with different powders, local shops don't have much to choose from nowdays with the epic component shortage..

Regardless of what powders your locals have in stock, a reloading manual or the powder maker's web site will be your best friend.
