Curious. I've seen Saeeds data, but his tube is very long!

What velocities are any of you getting? What bbl. length, bullet weights and powders?

Out of my 22" barrel using moly coated 129 grain Hornady bullets I got (max charges BTW):
IMR 4831 : 2800+
Varget : 2600
H414 : 2650

These were all chronoed using an Oehler 35P with the screens @ 10' from the muzzle. When the weather breaks around here, I'm going to do a complete workup using a NON MOLY version of the 129 grain loading. My goal is 2750-2800 with MOA accuracy, but I don't know if I can do it with that skinny tube.

I get a Nos 120bt going 3050 fps out of a 25 inch Shilen #3 contour. Great accuracy and ballistic uniformity. THE powder is N550. I have seen no published data for my load, so I'll just say use a mild primer. I use Remington. Loads just a little faster than IMR 4350. Uniformity was lousy till I got up to near max.

First chrono screen at about 3 foot off the muzzle. Kills deer dead with little recoil.

Lessen this load for Horn 129 by 1 grain. Not quite as accurate but more dependable for odd angled close shots in the woods.

I've worked pretty extensively with two Rem. 700's in .260, both with 22" barrels.

With 120 grain bullets, 2950 FPS is attainable;
129 grainers will go 2850 - 2900;
140's can hit 2750 without too much trouble.

I've seen other posts in here in which the guys are using 4895, Varget, etc.., but, my best results, both in velocity and accuracy, aside from one load of R15 and 120 Nosler B-Tip (and I think that one was pretty hot), have been with slower powders. IMR 4350 and 4831, and H4831SC have worked well with 120's and 129's, but, the 140's like H450, H4831SC, R22, and IMR 7828. H4831SC is the single most consistent powder I've tried.

Diamond D is right about consistent accuracy with the skinny barrels, at least the ones Remington puts on their mountain rifles. I'll get under 1" groups with a certain recipe on one day and not another. Oh well, if we were after target accuracy, we'd get them with bull barrels. For hunting deer size and larger game, they're plenty accurate.

Good luck, it's an excellent caliber to work with, in my experience.

Thanks guys... about what I thought. Anyone use the 125 gr Partition? How's muzzle blast in the 22" tubes?

The 125 Partitions generally require about 1 grain less powder than the 129 Hornady's to achieve velocities in the same range as the 129's. I don't know if that's a characteristic of the Partitions or not, but, I've noticed the same thing with them in other calibers. I've never been able to get the 125 Partitions to group as well as the 120 and 140 Speer Hot-Cor.

Muzzle blast, and recoil, is about like a.243.
