I'm inclined to get one of those press based devices with collets, but by the time you add up all the calibers....

Are the inertial devices adequate?

TIA,

I've used one of the hand held inertial devices for years. I hate the flimsy 3 jawed collet they use to hold the shell case.

I'd like to thank whomever it was who recommended simply using the shell holder from your reloading press, sliding the base into the shellholder and screwing the plastic head on over that. It works like a charm and I thank that guy everytime I use it.

Brian

If I hadn't discovered that one, I'd be using this one from Forester.

The inertia pullers are quick and simple. No damage at all to any of the components. Just whack something hard with it a couple of times and you're done. If the kids are acting up, you can always use their heads for a striking surface. They'll straighten up real quick.

I think everyone needs a inertial (hammer-type) puller. They are the only thing that will reliably break down most any cartidge into useable components. The Forsters are probably the fastest but the bullets sure look like hell when you are done. However, if I had a thousand or so to break down I'd probably use that as it would be much easier on the sanity. I've never used a collet puller though so I don't know how they compare speed-wise when a large number of bullets have to be done.

So I'd suggest getting a good inertial puller and then start experimenting with the other assorted doodads when you get tired of whacking that damn thing, but you'll always have it to go back to when you want to keep components in good condition or have an odd ball cartridge that won't fit anything else.

This topic was discussed a few times in the past. I believe it was decided the impact pullers were not the best way to go.

I've used both. For small jobs, pulling a few handloads, I prefer the hammer type.
For big jobs, say removing crimpt FMJ bullets from Mil rounds, where you don't mind some marks on the bullets, a collett type may be better.

I have used a set of end nippers for many years, almost as long as I have been handloading. I like Vapodog's setup. Mine is quite similar...

And somewhere I have an article out of American Rifleman where someone took a bunch of pulled bullets with crimp marks and shot them. Guess what? No appreciable change in group size. So pull 'em, reload 'em, and shoot 'em.

I use a set of collet type bullet pullers. I think they are Forester, not sure....I can pull bullets fast and not scar them at all...

I have a green hammer thats so popular and I use it with the shell holder not the flimsey collet that comes with the unit.....but there have been cases of exploding rounds with these type pullers and serious injury has occured, so I seldom use it anymore, except on a single round now and then, when I am too lazy to set up....

Well it's just lucky the dimpled ones didn't shoot a lot better, or else everyone would be wanting bullets made like golf balls.

I recently purchased the Hornady collet type puller. I have only used it a couple of time so far but it works as advertised.
