Question:
Narrowed my bullet selection down to a few your input would be appreciated. 375 H&H will be hunting mostly in the U.S. for elk whitetail and hogs. Only want to really work up one load for everything. If I go to Africa will use it on plains game and buffalo. Much later alot later.

Choices:
Barnes X triple shock 270 gr
North Fork 270 gr

How does the 'X' xhoot in your rifle? Since you threw buffalo in the mix, I voted 'X', but the exc. NF would be a great all round hunting bullet.

SwiftShot, if you're going to use one load for everything including buffalo, you may want to seriously consider the 300gr bullet. The 270 is more than enough for most animals, except buffalo. And I'm sure someone out there uses the 270gr on buffalo and it hits like the hammer of Thor. For the rest of us mere mortals, the 300gr will be a bit more appropriate. It's not the 30gr weight difference either. Generally, the 300gr softs are constructed heavier with a more delayed expansion than the 270. Again, there may be exceptions...

I don't know as I want just one bullet in my 375. I have a sub MOA load using the 270 grain Nosler Partition for North American hunting.

I'm also working up African loads with the 300 grain Barnes TSX and Banded Solid bullets.

Among the problems here is that there's so very many excellent bullets for the .375

The poll lists only two

The Nosler partition, woodleigh, accubond, A-Frame, TBBC and probably a few more are in the same category here.

I would opt for a woodleigh 270 gr but I like woodleigh bullets.

When hunting with a bolt rifle for big game, no matter where I'm hunting, I use only one weight bullet, a 300 gr soft or solid. The difference between the trejectory of the 270 gr, and the 300 gr is neglegable, and the 300 gr bullet will handle anything you hunt. All you need do is learn how to shoot one load.

The use of things like boat tail bullet is wasted effort, a boattail does nothing till the bullet get out to around 500 yds! shorther than that it will do nothing, and there is nothing a 270 gr bullet will do that a 300 gr bullet will not do better! Cool

Woodliegh softs and solids will cover anything you want to shoot with a 375 H&H rifle. I use my 375H&H rifles in Alaska Canada, Africa, as well as the USA. In North America for a bullet that is easy to get quickly is the 300 gr Nosler Partition, and it is deadly on Elk, Moose, black/Brown bear, under all conditions. In the past I've also used the great NP for first shot followed by Barnes super solids on Buffalo, but today for North America, as well as Africa, I now load 300 gr North Fork Cup point solids for everything from Jack rabbit to cape buffalo. Wink

I voted for the North Fork, since that was the only choice you gave me, X-bullets do not shoot well in my rifles, but I see absolutely no reason to use a 270 gr bullet in a 375 H&H, at all, no matter the brand! Confused

For hunting on this side of the big pond, I doubt it makes any difference which .375 H&H bullet you use, Its very hard to imagine bullet failure on deer or elk with a .375 H&H, inasmuch as even solids work pretty darn well....

The reason behing the 270 grain was to take some of the kick out of the mule. I might never see Africa but I know I will see elk every year. Black bear sometimes but lots of hogs which I cant wait to shoot.

I need some more votes guys this is like 50 50. Guess I might have to just start shooting them to see which one groups better.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of 375 are you using, Winnie or Rem? Is it that light that you would rather try a lighter bullet to mitigate recoil? In that case, try their 250 gr too.
