I have several new - to me - 308 Winches rifles.

I also have a number of different factory ammo.

I thought I would shoot all these ammo in different rifles and see the results.

2, 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

Some rifles change the point of impact with different ammo a lot more than others.

So far I have tried a Tikka T3, Sako A7 S, Kimber 8400 Patrol Tactical and a Steyer Carbon.

This is a bit funny.

It has a normal profile - sporter - barrel 16 inch long.

On top of this is installed a carbon sleeve, much longer, which screws to the barrel underneath.

A bit dilly really.

I will post the targets once I am done.

There are so many factors to effect accuracy and where the bullet will go:
Origin of rifling
rifling type
rifling twist
Bore size
bullet size
MV produced
many others.

More so, how the barrel was made and whether it was properly stress relieved; an operation that many barrel makers have not perfected.
They do not expect anyone to actually fire 5 shots at once; that is actually a hard test for most barrels.

As factory rifles go, these actually shoot very well.

Definitely better than rifles made say 20 30 years ago.

I suspect the reason is better machines.

And it seems they have gone to chambering barrels with tighter chambers.

Got ammo made by HPS TR LTD in England.

Supposed to be long range match ammo, loaded with Sierra 168 green tipped bullets.

This hasn't shot well in anything before, and still not very good, relatively, in these rifles.

Another problem with this ammo is some won't chamber in some of the rifles.

But, trying them in older factory guns is no problem??!!

Had a bunch of kids come to shoot, age 4-12.

Some brought their own air rifles, some used ours then went on to shoot 22 rim fire.

After sighting their rifles for them on paper targets, they shoot at colored table tennis balls and empty soft drink cans.

Then they wanted to see how I do my tests.

Most of the parents don't shoot, but some do.

One of the mothers beat the lot hands down, even her daughter who was shooting very well.

The little girl started shooting when she was about 3-4, and I used to sit her on my lap, aim the rifle for her and she pulled the trigger!

Now she is 18 and loves shooting, comes here quite often.

Had to explain to them why I let the rifle barrel cool down.

I shot the 2, 5 shot groups, then wait about 10-15 minutes before shooting the next round.

Had some old military ammo, in grey boxes of 20 rounds.

Some were misfiring, some hang fire.

Gave them a demonstration of this, and told them we don't throw any thing away.

Generally this is caused by bad primers.

So I pulled the bullets out of a few rounds, and loaded them n primed cases and bullets and fired them.

Some of the kids thought this is magic!!

And apparently all seem to be so impressed they want top have their own workshop "like uncle Saeed's"

I always recover powder from ammo that won't shoot, for any reason.

Years ago I was brought a whole bunch of AK47 ammo that got wet.

There was a few thousands rounds of various manufacturers.

Pulled all the bullets, there were various powder types.

I mixed the lot together, and used it to load 223 ammo for people to shoot here in the range.

Worked great, as I had lots of bulk 22 caliber bullets that came in boxes of 500.
