How well does the 223 Rem do with faster rifle powders like 4198? I was going to load some 223s up with a 50 grain bullet but I ran out of 748. I've got some Vectan/Noblesport Tu2000 which is similar in speed to 4198 and was wondering if it would be worth it to try or if I should just go get some more 748?

I was in the exact same spot a few months ago and tried IMR 4198 in lieu of 748. While I got a few spectacular groups with the 4198, it was no where as consistant as 748. If I were you, I would give it a try--whats the harm? BTW, my best 4198 groups came using 22 grains under a 40 grain V-MAX in a Ruger #1-V.

I love 4198, in my 223s. It is my to go to powder after Blue Dot for all of my loads, or anything over a 55 grain jacket.

Cheers and Good shooting

I remember trying some H-4198 in my Savage .223 with 24" barrel years ago. The accuracy was okay, but I found myself giving up 300 fps compared to my other loads with AA-2230, AA-2460, AA-2015-BR and H-335. This was with the 50 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. I didn't buy any more of the 4198.
