Does it make any difference which brand of primers you use as long as you work up your loads with the same kind and then only use those kind? And is there any Primers that are better than others and why? I can readily get about any major brand as the gunshop I go to stocks all major brands and I'm not sure which ones are best. Thanks rws2
I generally start all my loads with Remington. After I obtain the most accurate load for that cartridge in that particular firearm, I will try different primers. If none do better than the Remington I stay with them, however the primer made a great difference in one of my .25-06 loadings...

I do much the same as Ricciardelli, only I start with Federal. In about 75% of the loads there is no improvement to accuracy in switching primers. Some primers reduce accuracy. However, I've had loads that wouldn't shoot until the primers were switched and then they were very specific. The last thing I do in load development is try the best load with as many different primers as I may have on hand, usually about 7 or 8. The variance in velocity is not much, usually under 10 fps in most loads. Primers can make a differenc.

I shot all of them for years, then noticed my most accurate loads were with the Federal primers. When I combined all my charts one snowy night, 90% of my most accurate groups were with the Federals. Now I shoot only the 210M or 215M. Good shooting.
I used Winchester primers for years but started hearing bad things about the new Winchester primers so I switched to Federal with as good or ometimes even better accuracy. Just my $.02 worth
Load More To Shoot More Often You MEAN you can buy ammo.
