Anyone having any luck using RL-17 in the 6.5-06?

Haven't tried it yet in mine and looking for a place to start...

Well, I see that Alliant is no help to you for that cartridge.

This isn't much, but I tested it in four other calibers and found
that its efficiency is best at mid to heavy for caliber bullets.
For instance, 75gr bullets in the .25-06 resulted in poor groups,
while 85gr bullets were good for 3/4" groups and 100gr bullets less
than 3/4". The 55gr bullets in the .243 got 4" groups, 70gr bullets
never got less than MOA, but 105Amax got 1/4" groups!

If you can get no specific answers, and it were me, I'd start out
with Alliant's load for the .25-06 and 120gr bullets (very safe
load for your 6.5) and work my way up from there.

Thought I would start with 129 and 140gr SST's.

I did not work a lot with 17 because I had poor results right off the bat and excellent results with 19 and 22. RL19 was by far the most accurate and was also near the top in velocity. I am shooting 130 Accubonds, 125 Partitions, and 140 Scenars. IMR 7828 and 4831 were also very good.

Quintus..thanks for that. I was curious about RL17 because I have had great accuracy and velocity results with it in the 338-06ai...and I have a good supply of it. I may just have to use the old stand bys..19 and 21...I have both along with 4831 and 4350...

Mine worked better with AA4350. 17 was fine, less than 1 MOA, but 4350 was half that. I shoot 120 Ballistic Tips in mine.

Larry..do you have any idea what kind of velocity you were getting with the RL17 and the 120's? And what was your starting load? I may have to try it since I have a pile of RL17.

My notes indicate I started at 50 grains and went to 54. Best was at 52 at about 3000. As always, work up slowly.
