Guys,

Some years ago I bought a pretty large pile of .308 pulled FMJ ball bullets. The have some marks. I put them in the back of the closed and, frankly, forgot about them.

Happened to bump into them again.

Measured a few with a micrometer. The marks do not seem to cause any of them to be over sized.

I realize these may not be all that accurate ... but what are the chances that shooting these could cause bore damage?

I may try to run them through a sizer and see what happens. That would assure that they'd not cause bore damage.

That would be nice ... they are not boat tails, but there are literally 20 pounds of them! Would make for a fair amount of plinking ammo for .308 or 300 Whisper.

That's all I use in my M1A. Real good shooters. Think I got 5000 on the last order. Got a batch of .223 pulled too and they work good in the AR and Mini 14. Load them up and go shoot something. Big Grin

I use 42 gr of IMR 3031 with 150 Nosler bullets to duplicate the point of impact of Military Ball with a hunting bullet.

You might try starting with 40gr of IMR 3031 with your 150 FMJ pulls.

As butchlock stated, load 'em up and shoot 'em.

Many years ago, I picked up an ammo can full of 150 gr. fmj bullets that had been pulled, apparently using a pair of side cutters which left a small cut on opposing sides of each bullet. Figured they would be good plinking ammo and the price was right Smiler.

Was very pleasantly surprised to find they were just as accurate as M2 ball. Dug a few out of the backstop, the side-cutter marks had been ironed out by the rifling and were all but invisible.

hm

Military acceptance is often in the 3 inches at 100 range. What you have are not match bullets. Now if one end is cut off or they are flat, another story, but with just the additional stresses of pulling, probably not a big damage to their original standard which was low. For "shoots good, goes bang" shooting, great. Now if you are competing... bet on the other guy... luck.

PS For reasons I won't explain, Mr. Ackley chambered a .308 barrel to 8x57 Mauser with the .323 bullet. No pressure problems. No accuracy. You shouldn't hurt your barrel unless they are "black tip" ??? (steel core armor piercing in '06) ... Use common sense and enjoy.
