Gents,
Among other presses I use a Rockchucker press.I read several posts that warn in regards 300RUM case.Apparently there is not enough room for the 300RUM cases without modifications.I am setting myself up to reload for my new 300RUM rifle but dont have access to my reloading equipment as it all in MT and I am waiting here in L.A.
Could I ask please what kind of mods will have to be made and how difficult it will be to use the rockchucker for sizing and bullet seating.
Thanks

I wasn't aware of this. I use a RockChucker and load 300RUM. you have to sometimes raise the shell with bullet cockeyed to seat. I have been loading this for the past year with no problems. Could you tell me where you heard this.

bigcountry,
I believe to have read about the potential problem on this forum about 4 month ago or so.The fellow also contacted RCBS with less than neglect as a response from them.

Use my Ruckchucker to load for my 270-300ultra, and seating the bullet is the only operation that is anywhere near tight. I just put the bullet on top of the case then insert the whole thing at an angle, get the bullet in the bottom of the die then slide the case into the shell holder. works fine for me. Loaded round OAL is 3.735".

A friend of mine uses a Rockchucker press and has mentioned that it would be nice to have a little more room.I use the Lyman o-mag press and it has ample room even with the big Wby cases

It is not much hassle really, I load .416 Rigby rounds in my Rockchucker you just have to tilt to the side when seating bullets and hold the bullet and start it up into the die before putting in your shell holder. I remove the plastic primer catcher for this.

It would be nice to have a little extra room, but it gets the job done. I might oneday purchase either an ammo master or redding ultramag.

I will be loading a few .585 Nyatti rounds on it when my dies arrive it will be interesting to see how tight that will be.

Regards PC.

Thanks all,
I already have the bulletseating "problem"with my W 338Mag,have to carefully finagle the bullet into the die before seating it.Sounds similar here, just that apparently you cant even have the powderfilled cartridge in the shellholder?

As long as its doable I will be able to get started without delay and then decide whether yet another press is needed.

Thanks for sharing the experience

Using the Rockchucker with the 7mm STW and the Redding micrometer bullet seater with the sliding sleeve, it is very difficult to get the case in the shellholder and then insert the bullet. It is however no problem to just slide the bullet and case into the die together and then just slide them into the shellholder. With the regular Redding bullet seater there is no problem doing it either way.

Thanks rickdm,
I am using the Forster bullet seating die with micrometer.Dont know from here whether I will encounter the same problem. From what you describe it sounds somewhat awkward and maybe difficult if the case is filled with powder.
