I was looking in the Speer manual for reduced loads for the .223 They list 5744 down to 11-12 gr of powder the Accurate guide says up to 18.7 gr of powder for 5744. I sent an email to the ballistics person at AA and they said it was OK to use the range of from 11-18.7 That would have given me the flexibility to use one powder for a wide range of loads. I am not trying to go way down. I wanted to get down to 1800 +- for some things, 2500 mid range load and the usual loads around 3000 This is not for an AR type auto, its for a single shot heavy barreled CVA I have seen reduced load calculators that you can enter the velocity you want and it will give you the charge. I know there is more to it than that. First off, locally I cannot find any 5744 within a 75 mile range. I am trying to avoid buying a lb from midway and paying almost $60/lb with shipping and hazmat. So here I am looking to the experts. Is there any other powder that would get down to 1800fps? Is the starter loads listed in the manuals the the bottom load for safe shooting? I know at some point there are pressure issues. Enlighten me please? Rick

I don't see anything else in there under 2266 fps.

Trail Boss works fine, sounds like a muffled 22 Mag.
