OMG....gfeller2006

Welcome to AR, Yes just about all of us .270 guys have and still do use H4831 topped of with our favorite 130 bullet.

My favorite is 59 grns of H4831SC and 130 Sierra PH or GK

But simply put for the .270 Win.....H4831 and a 130 grn. bullet are like peanut butter and jelly.

You should find a sweet spot between 58 and 60 grains of H4831 with the 130s. As previously stated the 270 and h4831 are made for each other.

you might find that you have to compress the pwder charge.....go ahead and do it as it's been done by a million reloaders.....and there's absolutely nothing unsafe about it!

I'll echo the above posts. The 270 is my FAVORITE caliber. I have always found IMR4831 and H4831SC to be excellent.

I have a 130 Nosler solid base over 58.0 Reloder 22, 59.5 H4831SC and they are equal in accuracy.

There are MANY powders that work very well for your combo and I've achieved excellent results from all of the following:

H4831SC, IMR4831, H4350, IMR4350, XMR4350, Reloder 19, Reloder 22, IMR7828, and AA3100.

If a 270 doesn't perform with H4831 and 130 grain bullets, something is probably wrong - a hole in the fabric of space/time or some such...

I used to have a 270, it now resides with my youngest son. I read all the Jack O'Connor stuff about his hunting trips when a wee lad and knew that if I didn't get a 270 I would miss out on life's grandest experiences.

When I got one as a teenager I love shooting the Remington 721 with factory loads and took at lot of Idaho mulies and a few elk with it. Later I got a Ruger and worked up a load of WW cases with a CCI primer and 62.0 g. of H4831 topped off with a 130 g. bullet. Out of a 22" barrel it posted velocities around 3150-3180fps and seemed to be a fantastic combination of a game getter. Accuracy was acceptable at 1.5" groups but it wasn't purchased for club shoots. I shot a lot of stuff with that gun when as a newlywed I only had the one rifle and shed a few tears when my son took it.
