I am a new member and I need some help
Our range is trying to get approval for larger calibre rifles. At present we are restricted to 8mm. I am after a ballistics program that will give me maximum range of any given projectile up to .600 and requirement in ft/pounds at the muzzle to get it there. Any ideas. Jhon

Any Ballistic program that figures trajectory will give you the answers you need, but they don't depend on caliber or muzzle energy at all. The Ballistic Coefficient (BC) of the bullet, the muzzle velocity and the launch angle from horizontal are what determine the maximum range of a projectile. Most centerfire rifles can shoot a bullet several miles. The target ammo used by the 1000 yd shooters, because of the very streamlined bullets used (very high BC), will go much farther. Doesn't matter if it's a 6.5-284 or a 50 BMG round being shot.
