I'm loading for a .300 Weatherby wildcat called a .30 Tejas. It was built by Brad Stair of Performance Guns in Utah. He suggests I use 91 grains of RL-19 to get close to 4000 fps with the Nosler 125.
Has anyone gotten an accurate load with the .300 magnums and the light bullets? This rifle also has a muzzle brake.

I used H-4831 SC.....I don't remember chronographing it but IIRC it wasn't anywhere near the 4000 mark for speed!

Slancy-

I shoot a highly customized .300 Weatherby and did quite a bit of load testing with lighter bullets.

I am using 150 grain bullets and using 86 grains of Reloader 19. I am getting velocities in the range of 3630 to 3650 fps.

Hence, you may be able to push 4,000 fps with 125 grain bullets. I think your getting good advise as to powder selection. My rifle groups sub .5 moa if I do my part with Reloader 19.

As with all reloading, start lower and work up.

I betcha that would vaporize a coyote.

Good luck!!

What length barrel are you using? In a 26" barrel in a 300 Wby you ought to be able to get around or close to 3800. With more barrel length, you might get 4000.

As Vapodog and Fan have suggested that is coyote load at best. If you want to use such a load for long range hunting, you will probably want something like a 130 TSX or 125 Lost River Ballistics bullet.

I got good accuracy with this bullet and IMR7828 at 3800fps from a 300 RUM with a 26" barrel. Other than being quite accurate, the best thing I can say is that it is a very heavy varmint load. Hope this helps.

Slacey, is your case made from 300 weatherby brass or what? I have a 300 Jarrett made from 8mm necked down to .30 cal. i can shoot a 165 grain Nosler Combine Technology at around 3800 fps with 89 grains of RL22.

The .30 Tejas is made from the .300 Weatherby case.
It seems the Combined Technology coating allows for a little more velocity. The gunsmith also claims that the bore has been treated with some kind of lubricating process. I can't find Combined Tech bullets in 125 grains.
