I have 2 .257 Roberts rifles and several boxes of new 6mm Remington Ammo. Can I just pull the factory bullets and neck up to .257 and seat a 25 caliber of same weight or less and fire to form brass for my rifles? I would prolly dump the powder and cut it by a couple of grains. Tell me if there is a safety issue doing this. I can't how there would be. I need some brass and my rifles are Rugers. I have fireformed empty cases and they work just fine.

Or would anyone make me a deal on a 6mm rifle or .244 Rem rifle to shoot this ammo in ??? Sorta joking as that is a scarce caliber. Merg

If you neck up the 6mm brass to 257, it is almost the same as the 257 Roberts, but not exactly. The shoulder starts .003 further forward on the Roberts and the shoulder angle isn't as steep as on the 6mm Remington. So you would have excess headspace, but only a small amount. I would probably back off the powder charge a couple grains and seat the 257 bullet slightly into the lands and treat it like a slight fireforming.

I know we all reload to save a buck, but 257 Roberts brass is available. I do not like using the wrong headstamp brass, especially when the cartridges are too close 257 Roberts and 6mm Rem, or 260 Rem and 7mm-08, or 25-06 and 270 as more examples.

I say go get some 257 Roberts brass. If it was 257 Imp I wouldn't be opposed to using the 6mm brass as it is a wildcat that doesn't look like either parent case. That is my opinion anyhow.

I'd sell the ammo buy 257 brass and not fool with pulling bullets resizing etc.

As usual just my $.02

If you put a 6mm case in a .257 gauge the 6mm has excessive head space due to the sharper shoulder angle.
However .257s work well when necked to 6mm.
I have 500 WW .257 cases that I was going to do that to until I found a boat load of once fired 6mm brass.

I gotta agree with the others, just buy some new brass. What you're trying to do is way too much trouble. Here, I've made it easy for you:
