I know Speer Gold Dots are bonded, so why not use them for deer? Specifically, the 250 gr bullet for the 45 Colt at about 1600 fps. They're 1/4 the price of the 260 gr Nosler Partitions. Anyone use them?? "It's like killing roaches - you have to kill 'em all, otherwise what's the use?" Charles Bronson

I just Emailed Speer. I ask if I could run the 250 gr 45 cal Gold Dot at 1400 fps for deer Here is their reply telling me 1200 is about max . John: 1400 fps is too hot for that bullet. Check http://www.speer-bullets.com under "reloading" 45 Colt data is there, about 1200 fps for the T/C is about the limit. Shoot Straight! I've used them in 357Mags and 44Mags with nothing but 1-shot kills. So I see no reason why the 45cal wouldn't work just as well. Only complaint I have is a lack of Exits due to the Bullets expanding and staying together so well. I really prefer Exits where I hunt and even though the Gold Dots have always dropped them immediately, I just miss the Exit.

I know they make one for the 454, but it's 300 grs. Unnecessary, I think, for deer, but I bet it'll exit!! "It's like killing roaches - you have to kill 'em all, otherwise what's the use?" Charles Bronson

I do believe you are correct! That 300gr should make a nice hole on the way in and one the way out. Do you think you would have enough "adjustment" in the sights for it?
