How low can I go blue dot? Trying to make a load with a lower noise level for practice (getting rid of a flintch) and ground hog hunting. Actually its a 308 norma mag.

Not sure about Blue Dot, but I would look more into SR4759. I just don't know where to start. Traditionally you just half a max load and subtract a few grains. It was made for that reason so you could not get a double reduced load.

Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

I have ran as low as 10 grains in a 300 Win Mag... with fast powders, load data is close enough to be interchangable on the 308 Norma, 300 Win, and 300 Weatherby.....

As Monticello indicated also, that SR 4759 is also a good powder.... Any cast bullet manual, such as Lymans will give you some good data....

What kind of velocity are you looking for, with what bullet weight?

I don't see much use for Magnums any more although I do own 3....But I have found new life to them by using reduced loads....I just don't have the need often for max ft lbs or range....
But I do favor 26 inch barrels and all three are accurate....

So I now use them with reduced loads, with SR 4759 a lot in the field... and for target shooting when I get the mood....

Both SR 4759 and Blue Dot are excellent powders for that kind of work.... Neither show signs of being position sensitive in the case for reliable ignition, and consistent performance... I also use plain old Standard rifle primers also...

cheers

I just plan on using left over 150's from my 308 or buck shot if I can find more info on it's use in 30 cal. I'm just shooting for cheap, quiet, and under 50 yards. We got lots of ground hogs and it would be nice to get some more practice.
