I pretty much plan to stay with the 150 grain loads and might load 165 or 168 grains. I am not reloading for hunting.
I have been looking at the Hornady 150gr boat tail spire point bullets. I can push them up to 3000fps with 4064.
I just bought a new Remington 710 rifle in 30-06 and have not even fired it yet. I plan to experiment with different loads to see
what gives the tightest groups.

I found that IMR 4064 is the best powder for bullets up to and including 150 grain in the 30-06. For heavier bullets, especially 180 grain ones, I'd recommend H 4350, or even IMR or H 4831. Those slower-burning powders definitely give higher velocity with the heavier bullets, and possibly better accuracy too.

But 150 grain bullets and IMR 4064 make one of the greatest possible combinations in the 30-06.

Because it burns at close to the same rate as IMR 4895, IMR 4064 is a good powder for semi-autos like the M1, in which you wish to keep gasport pressures lower than you would get with slower powders like IMR 4350, etc.

My M1 "National Match" load uses 47 grains of 4064 and the Sierra 168-grain MatchKing. For hunting with the M1, I switch to the Sierra 165-grain HPBT or 165-grain Nosler Partition, depending on whether the load is just for deer, or for larger stuff like elk & moose.
