W/O a chronograph it would be only a guess. Confused Barrel length, throating, powder & primer lots? A guess would be about a about 2800fps from a 22"bbl. bewildered

It's a 22 inch bbl. the reason i asked is that 57 gns sounds like its about compressed but all the manuels say 59-60 is compressed Confusedmy oal is 3.310
id like to be able to get about 3000 fps out of it.any suggestions??
thanks

If you switch to a Nosler ballistic tip or partition at 130 grains, they list 59.0 grs of 4831sc as max and 3124 fps from a 24 inch bbl. In a 22 incher, that would be about 3064 fps. As they say, the only way to know for certian is to use a chronograph.

NOPE!! YOU MUST chronograph each rifle AND each given load to know what it is doing!!

blakerothe,

I've loaded 58 grns under 150s. You should be fine w/ 57-59 if your rifle will do it safely.

I believe you shouls be able to get 3000 before you even max out. I'm getting over 2800 w/ 55.1 grns under 140s.

Good Luck!

57 grains should not be compressed, especially not with short cut powder. My most accurate load is 57 grains of IMR4350 with Barnes Triple Shock 130 grains and Fed 210M primers.

Velocity was at 3057 fps.

I've loaded 62 g. of H4831 under a 130 g. Nosler BT for 3152 out of a Ruger 22" tube but again a chrony is really needed to determine the actual velocity. Most guns that have been shot over my chrony seem to come at lower velocities than the book says and my buds are depressed over the speed. Again evey gun is different.

If your just tipping the powder in the case any old how, you won't match the manuels pro reloaders. Esp. if your loading FLSized cases.
You have to use "tricks" to get more powder in
such as a drop tube. Also, "sounds compressed"
indicates a minor compression, which hardly counts. AND, is your charge wt accurate?
You'll know you have a compressed load when the
case is full and you wonder how you'll get the
bullet in.
