I am looking at a set of RCBS pistol dies that are not carbide.
Does this mean lube must be used on the cases?

Yes and it is a pain you don't need if good carbide dies are available in your caliber.

get the carbide dies if they are availible. Lube is a pain if you don't need it.

The spray lubes aren't bad at all, use them!

However, the other guys are right, non-carbide dies for straight wall cases are an unnecessary bother, but I have to say much less so since they invented the spray case lubes.

Like all the others said, go with carbide if at all possible. Rounds slide in and out slicker than snail snot on stained glass.
