My old friend Dan is looking to buy a Remington 220 Swift Varmint weight Rifle that will shoot accurately, bullets in the heavier weights. He is interested in shooting 60 and 63 grain bullets (and if need be heavier bullets) in one of the factory Swift Remington Varminters. His questions to me (and I haven't been able to answer it adequately!) for the last 2 YEARS+ has been - will the 60 and 63 grain bullets be accurate enough for Coyote and Deer Hunting uses from the Remington 1 in 14" twist barrels? He will be Hunting wheat field like country for both Mule Deer and Whitetails as well as the numerous Coyotes he jumps up while Hunting this country. I have owned and shot numerous 220 Swifts since the 1960's but I have never ever shot a bullet heavier than 55 grains! I can't answer his incessant questions regarding 60 and 63 grain bullets from the current Remington offered barrels with twist rate of 1 in 14"! Anyone have any first hand experience with these bullets from their factory Remington 220 Swift Varminters? I have been waiting for him to follow the uneductaed advice I have humbly proffered to him for the last two+ YEARS (go buy one and find out for yourself!) but again last night his phone call to me relayed that his cost for trying this out for "himself" would be $770.00! So I call upon any and all with experience in this regard to give me some of your insights - please. Thanks in advance. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

IMO the 1-14 twist is OK for the 60 grain bullets but marginally so.....I'd prefer a 1-12" twist for that task. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Just shoot the deer with 55's, they'll die. The 60-plus grain bullets will shoot, but not as well as the 55's in a 1-14 twist. The 1-12 twist barrel is better all around, when you shoot out the factory barrel, put a 12 in. twist barrel on it. A shot not taken is always a miss

Ditto what the others said. A 14 will work sometimes. I've some that did and two that didn't. Later it was suggested to me that the two that didn't maybe had flaws in the rate (as in the button was pulled at an uneven rate) and the slow end was at the muzzle. It's sometimes that close of a call. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Dude I have a target here somewhere that I shot about a month ago with 60 grn nosler partitions using a real girly load of H414 I just got home from driving back 15 hours from a hunting trip and I would love to get some sleep first but I will dig up that target and all the load info plus chrony readings for ya and it was shot out of a 700 VSSF 26" 1 in 14 I am thinking it was about an inch or so

Dale the 63 Gr Sierra SMP bullet 1370 work fine in my 1 in 14 twist. But the 60 Gr V-Max not worth beans. I'm like you I usually us the 50 and 55 Gr bullets with 4064.
