Powder Guru's I need some help!

I have been reloading for about 3 years and my only powder experience has been with Varget, H380, H4350, and ACC 2230. Currently I'm feeding a Oly Arms K16 in 223 and a Green 788 in 243.

I've ran into a shop that is closing out it's reloading components and the only powder they have is stuff I'm not familiar with. The smokeless powder is 1/2 off but only until Friday then it gets liquidated to a third party.

Which powders should I buy in bulk for 223 and 243 calibers? I wan't to buy in bulk as this stuff is $8-9 a pound.

Here is what's availible.

Reloader 7 and 25
Accurate 2015, 1680,2700,2460,8700, MagPro
XMR 4350, 3100
Win 760
IMR 4756,7625
RAMSHOT - Big Boy, Big Game

I'm looking to buy 10-20 pounds. What powders are best for my caliblers?

RL7 is great for your 223, 21gr with a good 55gr bullet is a super combination.

W760 is one of the best propellants for 80gr varmint bullets in the 243

AA3100 is superbly suited to 95-100gr bullets in the 243 and for 85-90gr bullets is probably the best propellant there is for the 243

The XMR4350 would also be of use with heavier bullets in your 243Win.
and is useful for 150-165gr bullets in
cartridges like 270Win, 280Rem and 30-06

RL25 is really S L O W and most of the rest are propellants I'm not personally aquainted with

Basically for use in what you already have, the 223Rem and the 243Win I'd grab the ALL the RL7 first, the AA3100 second and if I had any money left over the WW760.

For my own use mostly 223Rem, 30-06 and 45-70 I'd grab the RL7 first and the XMR4350 second then look at the AA3100 and the WW760.

The Winchester 760 will work nicely in your .243.

Where is this?...I'd be interested in some of the other powders.

As stated, never load just by using a chart, but it is certainly valuable in understanding relative burn rates and where they may be applicable.
Click on "burn rates" in the ramshot home page.

My "issue" with Ramshot propellants is that nobody in my area carries it and I don't see it in the major bullet mfg's loading manuals...

I personally only recommend things I've used or that I know will work from experience or data from reputable sources.

IMR, WW, AA and Alliant powders have a "history"
of being available and reasonably consistant

I'll admit that there was some doubt about Accurate, but they're still around...
Ramshot 5years from now?
Mabey Ramshot will go the way of RoyalScot...

I don't want to get to liking something then have it discontinued.

Since Hodgdon now owns/controls IMR and W-W powders, and Western operates Ramshot and AA, it will be hard to tell what may survive the mergers.
But they are available at one great place (plus VV powders)...

http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/index.html

they make it easy to spend yer $$$ for a complete inventory of powders.

For the .223 (with 40 grain bullets): AA-2015

You can't go wrong getting a supply of W-760, RL-7, RL-25.

Thanks for all of the information fellas, this is what makes this website what it is. Going to buy all of the Reloader 7, WW760, and accurate 2015 first, then load up on primers and bullets.

If I had just the .223 and .243 to load for with the powders you listed, I would buy all I could get in the following order:
Accurate 2015 my favorite powder for 40 and 50 gr bullets in the .223
XMR-4350 very ggod in the .243 not only with heavy bullets, but pretty good accuracy with 70 to 85 gr bullets, too.
Accurate Magpro just to try it in the .243 with heavy bullets. It sounds a lot like the old H-450 which was my favorite powder for 100 gr bullets in my .243.
So all the 2015 you can get, then XMR-4350, and a couple of pounds of Magpro. You should be set for a while.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

For the .223 RELOADER 7 ALL THE WAY! Especially with the 40 grainers. Seafire turned me on to this powder with the 40 grainers and I ended up with 27.0 grains for 3925 fps out of a 24" tube with great accuracy. I think Seafire goes up to 28.0 grains and is pushing over 4000+ fps with accuracy.
