Speer 235gr for .375 H&H

1895winSpeer 235gr for .375 H&H
Anyone using this bullet for deer-sized game? I got a Ruger #1 in .375 H&H last month and have been shooting a lot of cast bullets through it, but thought I might try the Speer for deer and hogs on the lease. I figure I wouldn't need to to push it hard (maybe about 2800fps) and it would shoot flat enough as we get some 200-300yd shot opportunities especially at the hogs.

I've shot it out of my 380PDK. Going by memory around 2700+. Took a couple does and hogs. Worked fine for that. I pretty much centered on the 260 Accubond for everything from my 380.
As usual just my $.02

craigsterI've used it for blacktails, worked just fine.

mstarlingI found that bullet to be a bit soft. Wound canals curved with pieces of core found within it.
Projectile is very accurate, but I think I'd look to the 225 gr Hornady as it is a bit tougher.

jeffeossohornady 225 is a better and tougher bullet

WallyfishSecond what Jeffeosso sez. I can get 2fers on medium size hogs with the 375 Ruger with the 225 H.

That is what I get for going by memory. It was the Hornady not the Speer.

1895winThanks for the advice. What powder are y'all running with the 225 gr. Hornady? Reloader 15?

mstarlingHave used RL-15 and AA4350 for slower velocities.
My first .375 H&H was a Weatherby Mark V Weathermark Alaskan. It was incredibly accurate with the light bullet.

N E 450 No2I have killed several deer and my brother has killed deer, and some pigs with this bullet in the 375 H&H.
It works great. We load it with 64gr of IMR 3031, at around 2500fps. It is a low recoiling load and very accurate in several different 375 H&H's.

BlacktailerThe marginal BC actually makes these light 375 bullets have more drop at range than 250-270gr bullets. I used the 235gr Speers until the CA lead ban then switched to Barnes 235's. While they were both accurate, they both tended to spoil more meat than I prefer, although that didn't matter on varmints. I have switched to the 250TTSX for my light bullet although I don't have any results in game yet.

I stopped buying light bullets for the .375 H&H for that same reason. Found that 300 gr TSX ammo left over from Africa works very well on piggies and deer too!
I do use the 225 Hornady for .376 Steyr where high velocity is not a significant issue.
