The last time I posted load data for a 405 Winchester on this site all hell broke loose, so I shalt repeat that mistake.

The data on Hodgdon's site is good, BUT you will have to subtract ~ 150fps off their muzzle velocities to get back to reality! For instance, it took 62.2 grains of H4895 in my rifle to achieve 2300 fps. Hodgdon claims it takes 59 grains. My rifle its 2150 fps with 59 grains of H4895.

My rifle is a new production Winchester M1895, it has a 24" barrel.

I have found that Rel 7 is the best performing powder, with IMR3031 coming in second. 4895 is too slow as is Varget, 4064, etc.

If you want actual recipes PM me.

The "Steve's Pages" website has some data for it as well. I settled on 56 gr. of IMR-3031 for my new model '95 which gave me right at 2220 which I think is what the factory ammo is quoted at. There's no sense in hotrodding the 405 since you're not going to wring that much more out of it.

I've got the Ruger #1 in 405 on my wish list, but I don't know how long it'll be before I get my hands on one.
