Any thoughts on these? I bought some 120 gr to reload for my son's 260 Rem. because they were cheap and in stock. I'm assuming they are a typical cup & core bullet similar to a Speer Hot-Core, which I love. Thanks! Adam 30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

I have used them in a number of calibers and they work great. A friend of mine used my 36-06 with 180gr Sierra Pro Hunters last fall to kill a 350 class elk. One shot, one elk.

That is exactly the bullet I use in my daughter's 6.5x284 for all things deer. It just works, and has always been very accurate. Works just as well in my 260. My 6.5-06AI slightly prefers the Ballistic Tip, or I would use it there as well. I am close to the Sierra factory so I buy them in bulk from the factory outlet. Pro Hunter are OK, I use them where I need more bullet cohesion than my usual Game Kings. Their 180 g (SP ot RN) are quite accurate (5 in < MOA) and perform effectively in my .30-06. I load these on top of N 160 / 56.5. ![]() André DRSS --------- 3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact. 5 shots are a group.

I use them exclusively for deer hunting in .308 Winchester and 30-06. I have never lost a deer shot with them and have only had 1 doe that needed a follow up shot as she was shot at 10 feet with the bullet entering her left side from the rear, just behind the rib cage. It did fail to penetrate fully but she ran about 200 yards across a hay field and was too damaged to jump a barbed wire fence, I hit her again and she was done. So, Gamekings are 138 deer down in 139 shots with zero misses.

Thanks Gents! I've never used any Sierra bullets before; primarily Nosler & Speer with some Hornady thrown in. I use Speer Hot Core for deer in just about every rifle I own and have never been disapointed in their performance. I'm going to load some this weekend. I've RL-17 and H414 on hand and those look to give good performance in the 260. Wish I could find some RL-19 as it seems to give the best velocity. 30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. It as been quite a few years ago, but I saw two Sierra Pro Hunters fail on TX hill country whitetails. I won't use them. FWIW, I used to take Sierras and work up handloads for my hunting rifles, then when I got where I wanted to be I would replace the Sierras with Speer Grand Slams, and was good to go. A buddy of mine told me the Sierra rep a few years ago at a SHOT show that the jackets on Sierras were too thin to be driven at speeds of over 3k. I took that to heart. Too few chances at game for failure, at least in my estimation. In the overall scheme of things, bullets are too cheap. I will continue to buy premium bullets as long as I can afford them, and to me, Sierras are not premium HUNTING bullets. They shoot marvelous groups on paper, but two failures in 100 projectiles is three too many. Just my honest $.02...

That begs the question though: If they were being driven beyond there design parameters; in excess of 3000fps, why would anyone expect it to perform outside that? My sons 260 is Rem. Mod 7 w/ a 20" tube. The best data I have shows a MV of 2985. I doubt I will get close to that given the short bbl. Accuracy is more important to me anyway. 30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

This is exactly where the complaint with any cup and core bullet starts. When a bullet is not used within it's intended use you will have erratic behavior. That said Sierra bullets, Gamekings and Prohunters, are my go to bullet for Deer, Elk, Antelope, Bear, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats, and after 2014 African Plains game. I have used it with great results in .243, .257 Roberts, 6.5x55, .284, 30/06, .338 win mag to name a few. I can't count how many animals we've killed with Sierra bullets and not even 1 "failure".

I use them in a 260 AI at 3100 FPS and have never been able to recover a bullet on a deer. So they must stay together fairly well

Took a black bear a few years back with a 130 gr Prohunter out of my 270WSM, handloaded to 3000 fps ( a 270 Win equivalent load). I use the 100 gr Prohunter out of my 25/06 and 257 Roberts for deer and coyote.

I have shot several whitetail deer with 100gr Prohunters out of a 25-06 running faster than 3000fps with no problems. They also worked great in my 257 Wby at 3600fps on antelope and deer.

Bullet failure is always an interesting subject. Did the bullet fail because you retrieved a bullet from a dead animal were the cup separated from the core? Did it fail because it penciled through the animal and you never recovered the animal or the bullet? If the object of a bullet is to kill game, then Sierra bullets have served me well. I have had a few separations but for the most part no recovered bullets and just dead animals.
