a v.....e.....r.....y l.....o.....n.....g time. Mostly as I'm now shooting less than in younger days. My guess is that if I bought a few pounds of H-414 and H-4831SC I'm set for life! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I have enough powder, Brass and bullets on hand to reload the remainder of my life and my son's life, and my 6 grandson's and 1 grandaughters lives, my great grandson (age 3 ) would have to buy some primers when he is a retiree. Good shooting. phurley

I have a couple hundred primers, a couple of pounds of Varget, a couple of pounds of 3031, a couple of pounds of RL-22, a couple of pounds of 7828, and an assortment of odds and ends powders. I keep a hundred or so brass for every caliber that I shoot. That's my story, and I am sticking to it.

My dad told me once that if you're gonna kill a rattler with a chainsaw, use the top of the bar.

Kind of depends on how much you shoot. I used to shoot 2K rds of handgun ammo a month. At that rate, I would run out of primers in about 18m. Primers are really the big sticking point/ W/O them, you aren't reloading. I can cast bullets, scrounge powder from SG shells, but w/o primers, you are screwed. So guess what I buy whenever I can? It depends on how much you shoot! I ordered 2000 Lapua 139 gr 6.5mm bullets that should last for 2/3's the life of one of my rifle barrels. I've got 400 rounds down the tube already in about a month. If you buy plenty of rifles and enough components for the life of the barrel once you've found the load, you'll be set for life and then some.....

At this rate, I will likely live to see the day that components (namely primers/powder) are unavailable. Being 27 years old with all of the hoarders out there; I am unable to hoard for myself. I can last about 2 years on my current supply. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit"--Aristotle (384BC-322BC)

Like Fred says ; I run through about 2-3K rounds a month pistol rifle and I'll run out of primers in 2014 if I'm unable to purchase any more . I haven't purchased since 2003 .Now as for powder bullets and loaded ammo doubtful I'll ever expend what I have on hand before I depart this atmosphere . Really depends on the coming War though !!. We all like to deny it but deep down know it's inevitable .To Dam many problematic religious factions bent on destruction to not see that clearly !!!.

Unless I start shooting a lot more, I have enough components on hand, if I pick up another 1000 primers, to load for about 8 years. That will take me into my mid 30's.

as long as they keep making bullets I'll be fine for a while.... it's the %*#$ primers. Oh and I sure wish i had a lb. or two of extra powder.

I look at this a bit differently. I have used my stash to start off over two dozen starting handloaders I have met at work or at the range. I use teaching of others as a way to justify giving some away and enticing myself back to the components store. Always tryuing new powders and can't keep it in stock by the lb. (my trial size)

As it stands now, I would probably be good for about nine months or so, shooting a measly 100 rounds a week. A case of Montana Gold bullets are the smallest quantity I have in stock, and I just received two 8-pound kegs of 2400 today which should last a round or two. Lotsa virgin brass, and enough primers too.

I can't recall the last time I purchased factory ammo for a rifle, and shouldn't have to in my lifetime, I'm 52. Between reloading supplies, and casting, I don't plan on running out, unless a war breaks out here. Let us speak courteously, deal fairly, and keep ourselves armed and ready Theodore Roosevelt

The 1,988 rounds is for my Savage Model 12 single shot. I was only talking "sporting arms" ammo. The amount of 5.56 for the ARs is, like yours, classified. My dad told me once that if you're gonna kill a rattler with a chainsaw, use the top of the bar.

For me? Well, you're gonna need a Top Secret Crypto security clearance to know. Then, you're gonna have to have a "need to know". That applies to Osama Obama and the rest of the Keystone Kops Klan as well. Bear in Fairbanks Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes. I can go probably 3 years or so depending on how much i shoot. I have about 5,000 live rounds for several calibers and about 2 years worth of reloading stock, But i'm frequenting the supply stores alot more lately so that will likely go up!

We buy Unique and GreenDot by the 8lb jug, so if I quit shooting clays I have enough components for my grandson to shoot the .45 until he retires.

You are assuming that I don't already have an ample supply of primers As 1000 more would allow me to load all the bullets I have on hand. Which, according to how much I shoot, would last me 8 years tops!

In keeping with the humorous nature of these posts, I've checked my limited supplies and have determined if I load correctly, I can load as long as 3.600" which is the SAAMI maximum COL of my one and only rifle, my 375H&H Magnum.

As with most serious and those who reload for fun I have acquired way more componsents than I will ever be able to use for the traditional and common rifles and pistols I own. For the past couple of years I have also been acquiring Black Powder, Black powder substitutes, formula for making black powder, flints, and other necessary items for shooting when primers and bullet supplies become expensive or just cannot be found easily. Shooting flintlocks (rifle and pistol ) really has added to the variety of shooting ANYTHING which is what I enjoy. Frank

Dang, I'm down to about 80,000 primers, it always seems like I'm running out of one and have plenty of another. Only a hundred or two pounds of powder and the same thing applies - you run low on favorites occasionally. I really need to stock up on bullets! Probably only 10,000 or so, CRAP. I hope the manufacturers get caught up this year!..................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................
