We had a very accurate load for the 7 STW with Rx 22 and 140 Nosler BT. The old loads still shot well.

Last year we receive 10 pounds of Rx 22 to freshen our supply, then got the recall notice. They sent 10 pounds of the replacement powder and said to destroy the original shipment, which we did.

Our problem is that we cannot get the same accuracy as the old loads. (no we didn't destroy the wrong batch) Has anyone else had this same problem?

I have had to tweak loads slightly when going to new lots of powder. I have never used RL22, no one around here carries it. The powders I use are IMR powders. Mostly it was a half grain up or down that put things right again.

I haven't tried RL22, but have a story about IMR4895. Had two great 308 loads worked up for 168/190 hpbt's, then ran out of the 8 lb can. Got another 8 lb. can. The new powder weighed about 1.5 grs more than the old powder (for the same volume charge), so I reduced to match charge weight. When I finally got it to shoot halfway decent (never could get as accurate a load), I was probably back to about the same original volume. Wish I'd have gotten two cans (same lot) the first time.

Point is, powders can and do vary significantly from lot to lot, so if you find a "good" lot, get more than you think you'll ever need....

I buy the RL22 in the 8 lb cans.

I had some of the best, and hottest groups ever with the stuff that they recalled before I found out about it.

Willie - I had that same lot of RL22 (lot 25083, Sept 09 I think) and I only found that it was faster burning, or so it seemed, than previous lots. I re-work loads when switching to new lots of powder and I found my loads with lot number 25083 to be three grains lower for the rifles I used it in. I talked with Ben A. at Alliant also. By that time I had less than a pound left so I didn't request a replacement. The new lot that I am currently using is giving me similar velocity and accuracy with the same charges as lots prior to 25083. I have not noticed an accuracy reduction either.

Basic rule of reloading...whenever you change ANY component, back off at least 10% and start over again...
