I like to separate brass for each rifle according to headstamp, makes it easier to keep brass for the various rifles apart. I have bought a new .223 Rem rifle, so I'll need some .223 Rem brass with a different headstamp. I currently use: - Remington - Winchester - Federal - Lapua - Swiss Military (Thun) What other brass can I obtain in the US?? I'd prefer new brass, although if I can't find anything else, I guess 1ce fired Lake City might be an option?? Is that the stuff sold here: http://secure.cartsvr.net/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=2317386&showprevnext=1 Nosler's new brass is an option, although fairly expensive. Norma is an option, but even more expensive. Has anybody ever tried Winchester manufactured military brass?? IMI does not seem to be available at present. Any other ideas and comments?? - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... The processed LC from Scharch is very good, but expect to do some chamfering if you seek the ultimate group.

www.southernbellebrass.com has once fired range brass for sale... in lots of Remington, Winchester and Federal.... it is also available in a lot of other calibers.... All of it needs to be tumbled and resized etc... it is not nice and shiny, but overnight in the tumbler fixes that.... Prices are reasonable in my book....quality has been very very good... but once again, not pretty when you get it... this brass is from police ranges.....so there is not military primer pockets etc to deal with.... PMC brass... that just sucks.. I don't use it regardless of source, new or used... cheers seafire

Lots of interesting options. Jal: great idea about the PMC and nickled brass. Anybody have experience with PMC brass, where is it sold, and at what cost???? Nickled brass would certainly be instantly recognizable, that would an option, at least as far as being easy to keep separate... tnekkcc: I take your comment as Scharch does indeed sell the 1cs fired (but "processed) LC brass (the webiste does not actually specify it is LC, just "military" barss). I see the brass has been trimmed. Is the "chamfering" you refer to simply a regular chamfering of the case mouths - like you do after a regular trimming?? That would not be a problem. djpaintles: when you refer to "the same stuff" from "brassman.com", is that a comparision to Scharch?? I have spotted the LC brass on the brassman.com website, but the it does not specify if this brass has been "processed" in any way - like Scharch brass. e.g. has the primer crimp been removed?? butchlambert: thanks a ton for the offer of the LC. Sadly, I'm not really set up to drill my own flashholes (no drillpress etc). Seafire: thanks for the pointer to Southernbellebrass.com, but I'm probably looking for brass with uniform headstamps to be able to keep brass for multiple rifles separate. Thanks again, guys. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... It entices its bearer into primeval forests, into mountains and deserts untenanted by man. - Horace Kephart

Mike, Southern Belle will allow you to order just Winchester or Remington or Federal Headstamps... I order Winchester only brass from them, and it is at no extra charge, they do separate it by Manufacturer.... hope that helps... cheers seafire

You might think of getting some South African PMP ammo. It is inexpensive, accurate beyond beief and the cases show the classic annealing witness.I've been reloading them for several months and they seem just fine. The original price was $3.95/20 plus delivery. When you brake the ammo cost down you are paying about 7 1/2cents for powder, primer, bullet, labor and packaging. Such a deal! roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Thanks Seafire, I had not caught onto the fact you could get the brass separated "at source". Bartsche, I'm glad you like the PMP brass. I bought some when I loaded some .223 Rem for a friend - the price was right. My experience was altogether negative, I'm sorry to say. We ended up getting some Lapau, and sun immediately shone on us... - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Mike, I was refferring to the RP factory stuff. It doesn't need a primer crimp removed. It comes with each case having a small dent in the side probably from being fired in a automatic police weapon. I did an experiment with my Sako 223. I bought some Lapua brass and match prepped it i.e. trimmed chamfered, uniformed primer pocket etc. and loaded it. I also took some of the once fired RP brass and sprayed lube on it and ran it through my Dillon 650 press. The Lapua stuff shot about .499 inches and the RP loaded in the Dillon shot about .500. I couldn't tell much difference between the two. Now for a serious match I'm picky enough to still use the prepped lapua. But for varmint hunting etc. I'm going to use the $20 per thousand RP and not worry if I find every spend case...................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

Mike, I really am shocked. Perchance are you talking PMC? All the ammo I bought (PMP) has done great in a Ruger and Savage Varmints. The cases when reloaded are just fine. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!!
