I loaded some 7mm-08 shells with 139gr. Hornady Interlocks and 48gr. of RL-19 powder. I took them and shot today and shot a 4 shot 3/4" group! Counting the 5th shot it opened to just 1". The barrel was hot on the 5th shot and I almost did not fire it but knew it was the last shot I was going to shoot so I did it. I am very pleased with the 3/4" group and this powders performance. My question is: How hot of a powder is RL-19? And is it significantly hotter or dirtier than other powders in this 7mm-08/ .308win. range??? Thanks
Brian

I buy R19 and R15 in 5lbs kegs. They are both very accurate powers. R19 is very slow for a 308 win but works excellent in my 260 rem. I don't have a 7-08 but would think it would work out pretty well. It sounds like that is a good group for that particular rifle? A 1MOA gun with hunting bullets is a nice shooting load . Shoot it across a chrony and see if you like the velocity.

I believe that RL-19 burns about in the Imr-4831 speed range.......DJ

RL19 is a bit slower than IMR4831. I use it in my .338mag. I've tried it on the .30-06 also & it perf. well w/ 180gr bullets. I didn't have good luck using it in my .280 but it is showing promise in my new .404jeffery.

RL-19 is my powder of choice for the 6.5x55, 7x57, and 30-06.

Works great in my 25 JnkR..100grn. Noslers over 52 grains for 3324...except that one flyer just has to be the powder's fault

And my 300WSM:

Dave--Beautiful post!!!!!!! I especially love how the "flyer has to be the powders fault". I really love it when someone posts that they get an "occasional" flyer and they wonder what the heck caused it because they have done alot of shooting and there is no way in heck their mental makeup and physical conditioning could have made a bullet wander 1" at 100 yds!!!!!!!!! It's quite obvious you have to keep posting till you find the real root of the evil of that wandering shot. --Must be "bad runnout", a burr in the case mouth, bad bedding on the rifle, a nicked bullet heal, inconsistant bullet olgive, improperly seated primer, inconsistant case weight, a bad rifle crown, a loose scope screw, loose reticles in the scope, a "hanging"firing pin, or something. Gosh, I don't know how you could even consider hunting with such guns as you have. How are you going to sleep tonight!!!!!!!!!!! Hope someone gets a chuckle ---D Kraky.

You want to make that 7-08 sing? Try H-Varget. Have used it for a few years in both 7-08 and 7-08AI. Excellent accuracy and velocity. H-4895 aint bad either. The RL-19 really shined in my 300wsm. Used 71.5grains with a swift scirocco 165. Right at 3300 from a 26" barrel. Groups averaged .54".

I was impressed at how consistently the powder was when I tried it in my 300WM with Barnes XLC's. I would get Extreme Spreads of less than 10fps in a 5 shot group. However, my rifle refused to shoot the XLC's well so the RL19 didn't work for me. I will try whats left in my 280.
