I was loading my 416 Rem mag for a while using Lee (cheap) dies and noticed a fair amount of runout. I don't have a tool to measure it but I can see it, so I got a nice set of Hornady Dies, but no change. I read the 458 Lott topic, but since this not a straight case, expanders aren't included. The bullets are short 300 gr Hawks, and my Ruger #1 has a long throat, so I'm trying to keep the round as close to the rifling as possible, but it's still 3/8" or so away. I have them seated most of the way down the neck..probably 7/8ths of the way. It's not evident with longer bullets, but they're seated with the base of the bullet down to or past the neck...What's up??

Howdy,
first, try shooting them and see if there is any runout on the fired brass ....

Try resizing, but do not put a bullet into it, and see if there is any runout on just the cases...

http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?itemnumber=G9849

is a 20 dollar dial indicator and base

odds on, it'l be there after the resize...

get a new shellholder, that fits tigher, is one way
