Do any of the folks here have experience loading the Barnes originals. I am really curious about what I can do with the 195 gr. 7mm. It appears I can get around 2800 fps, which I would think would penetrate all day long. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Joel, I used them years ago and they opened up good on close shots and failed on long range (200 yds)....I cut one in half lengthwise and found them very heavy up front and I suppose that stopped expansion when the velocity slowed down at 200 and beyond...Don't know if they fixed that or not....I love the 175 gr. Woodleigh RN.... ------------------

Anyone know how they compare to Hawk RN's?

Shot a moose in Alaska in 98 with a .340 weatherby. The 300 gr. Barnes original went in at the right shoulder and broke it , broke the rib, went to the off side broke the rib going out and broke the offside shoulder. The bullet was stuck under the skin. The range was only about 75 yards. The bullet still was 270 grains and looked like the mushroom we all dream about. MD

I have tried the 400 gr Barnes originals in a .416 Taylor for moose. I cant say I like them, they useally lost all the lead. There is a lot of lead in a 400 gr bullet..... There was holes were it wasnt suppose to holes in the moose Started using 340 gr. Woodleighs and was really happy with them! Stefan. Stefan
