Last night I was trying to load some .375 H&H with a 270 grain tsx and kept running into a problem I hope someone can shed some light on for me. As I tried to seat them about the time I would get the coal to 3.600" the bullet would stick in the die and pull out of the cartridge. They would stay in at 3.700" but when I gave the seater that last twist or so and pulled the handle again the bullet would stick in the die and pull out of the neck, at which point I could take the die out of the press, tap it on the bench and the bullet would fall out. I tried a couple different bullets and a couple different cartridges(with the same result each time) as I thought maybe it was a bad bullet or a cartridge with poor neck tension but neither seemed to be the case. I then proceeded to load 270 gr interbonds with no problem. I am using a rcbs 375H&H fl die set. Do I need a different die or seater plug for the tsx? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jason

Do you have sufficient taper on your cases? I could imagine that the edge of one of the canalures is touching the top edge of the case neck, thereby pushing it down and bulging the complete neck. This would reduce neck tension and free the bullet. I've just measured a TSX in .30 caliber. The most upper edge, on top of the last canlalure seems to be just a wee bit wider than the lower bands.

Have you pulled the seater plug out of the die and examined it? Try placing a TSX by hand into the end of the seater plug to see if it somehow sticks. Maybe you need to polish it out with a Dremel tool or something? What does the end of the bullet look like? The only other explanation I can think of is that you have some kind of crimping issue but I wouldn't think that wold cause teh bullet to come out. I would say that you have not enough neck tension; try to mic the TSX and Interbond diameter; possibly, due to the cannelures, with the TSX you don't have enough "contact" between the bullet and the neck.

I have had the exact same problem with the 300 gr. TSX in .375. I have talked to RCBS on the phone about the issue. The problem is the taper on the seating plug is identical to the TSX bullet. You have almost a "collet" effect, with the bullet wedging itself into the seating plug. There are two reasonable solutions (that I know of). First, RCBS will make a custom seating plug for any bullet. Cost is about $16 plus $4 shipping. Or you can use another plug with a different profile. RCBS does not make any other standard plug for the .375. I have used a seating plug from a 38/357 dies set with reasonable results. I suppose the earlier suggestion to change the shape of the seating plug with a dremel might work, but I doubt this is as easy as it sounds. Bill

What Blacktailer said : Thoroughly clean and make sure there are no nicks/burrs on the plug. I had to sand down my .375 Wby seater plug (used fine steel wool) and most recently clean a tiny bit of something from 7x64 die. They made the odd bullet "pull" back out. _______________________

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I did inspect the seater plug for burrs or irregularities and it appeared OK. Llamapacker: Thanks for the info, I think I will be calling rcbs and ordering a custom seater plug for the tsx, for $20 it seems the best solution. In the meantime while I am waiting for my new seater plug to arrive I am going to try to polish/sand it as Blacktailer suggested. Thanks again guys. Jason J

llamapacker nailed it:
I had the identical problem with a 165gr accubond and a forster seating die. Mine wouldn't pull the bullet all the way out, just partially out. I chased my tail for hours one night trying to get consistent OAL. A call to Forster yielded a new seating plug with a slightly modified profile (free of charge, BTW, good folks). Worked like a charm. -nosualc Beware the fury of an aroused democracy. -Ike

I had the same problem with .375 caliber TSX bullets. Fortunately, in addition to my RCBS seater die, I had a seater from Lee that worked well. The other thing I ran into with 375 H&H Magnum loads with the TSX was loose bullets. Sizing the necks with a Lee Collet Die helps as does the Lee Factory Crimp Die.
