Anubody have a good load for the 300 Win with a 165 gr bullet using H1000? The Hodgdon Rep said it has been used extensively in 600 and 1000 yard shooting. Before I buy a can of powder based on this, I'd like to hear from someone who's actually used it.

Haven't used it yet, but I plan to. H-1000 is temperature-stable and consistently shows a lot higher 300 Win mag max velocities in the manuals.

I load 168-grain Barnes Triple Shocks with 84 grains of H-1000 for my .300 Win Mag. That's a max load, so start low and work up. Haven't chrono'ed the load; but accuracy is fine - five shot groups about 0.80" at 100 yards.

I'm not quoting loads but both H1000 and RL 22 seem to give me the best accuracy vs. velocity in the .300 Win mag.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. That's what I was hoping to hear. I get good velocity and accuracy with R22 right now but it does seem to vary quite a bit from lot to lot. I hunt a lot in very cold weather as well so the extremme powders from Hodgdon are a bonus. I'll try it out.

I load H 1000 in my 300 Win Mag for heavier bullets...I know this is over published max... but since it is a slow powder... and I worked this up....

I load 83 grains of it, and a 220 grain round nose...Velocity won't break 3000 fps, being between 2950 and 2975 fps....

MY Browning seems to shoot it better than most other loads and that Round Nose is quite a thumper when it hits something... people ever take notice when I am shooting a gong at 300 yds with it.. a very loud and noticable "clang!"....

Chronographs are not giving me much variation....

I love Alliant powders but I agree with you, RL 22 has too much variation in it....H 1000 has been pretty consistent....

My success with it and the 220 grain Round Noses....It has just become the load that rifle and that bullet weight get... no need to play around looking for something better.. accurate and very very hard hitting....what more could I ask for????

I use H1000 in the .300WM. 80.0 gr is some sort of accuracy "sweet spot" in my rifle, with 3 different bullets.

180 Ballistic tip,(3000fps)
200 Partition,(2900fps) and
210 Berger VLD (2950 fps)

180 Barnes TSX and 83.5gr gave me 3150 fps

All these loads will shoot about 1/4 MOA in my Custom Mod 70

180 Ballistic Tips gave some 3-inch groups at 1000 yards.

Never shot the Partitions long range.

210 Bergers shoot the best, (2- 3/16 - inch group at 1030 yards) not really a hunting bullet, though.

Always work up to published loads, my OAL is 3.5 inches, longer than SAAMI Spec of 3.340, gives me more powder capacity.

Hpe this helps,
marc

marc what is the barrel length on your mod 70. You're velocity looks really good with a 180. I hope I can do as well in my rifle.

It's a 26- inch Krieger barrel. I have 2400 rounds through it, and it still shoots great.
